Job summary

Copper is seeking a Staff Firmware Engineer in Berkeley to own major portions of the embedded firmware stack for our energy-storage-enabled appliances, from development through production, deployment, and field support.

You will mentor engineers, shape firmware architecture, and collaborate across electrical, mechanical, cloud and product teams while shipping reliable, scalable systems for real homes.

Qualifications

• Extensive hands-on embedded systems experience with production deployments.
• Expertise in firmware development with strong C/C++ skills.
• Experience with Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, and OTA update mechanisms.
• Familiarity with cloud integrations and REST/MQTT protocols.
• Proven ability to lead, mentor, and influence across teams.

Responsibilities

• Own major portions of the embedded firmware stack from development to production and field support.
• Design, implement and test new firmware features with hands-on appliance testing.
• Improve device connectivity and reliability (Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, OTA, provisioning).
• Evolve systems for fleet management, telemetry, and remote control.
• Support manufacturing firmware needs including flashing stations and end-of-line tests.
• Identify tooling gaps and help build scalable infrastructure for fleets.
• Mentor engineers through design reviews and debugging support.
