Job summary

AbbVie is seeking a Software Engineer in Pleasanton to design, implement, and test software for hardware-integrated devices. You will work across full-stack features, write tests, and develop event-driven, multi-threaded applications for embedded systems.

The role requires experience with Windows apps (C#, WPF, WCF), embedded protocols (I2C/SPI/USB), and a background in regulated development environments. Collaboration with cross-functional teams and documentation are key parts of the job.

Qualifications

• BS or higher in a STEM discipline with 6+ years of professional coding experience.
• 4+ years of software design and development experience.
• 3+ years of Windows programming with C# and .NET in embedded devices.
• Experience with Windows-based apps using WPF, WCF, .NET and C#.
• Familiarity with I2C, SPI, USB, Serial, WIFI or Bluetooth protocols.
• Experience in regulated development environments for medical devices.
• Automated testing frameworks and debugging skills required.
• Strong documentation and cross-functional collaboration abilities.

Responsibilities

• Participate in requirements refinement and architecture reviews for full-stack features.
• Write clean code and tests; produce unit, component, and integration tests.
• Develop event-driven, multi-threaded apps for embedded devices.
• Support debugging across software and hardware interfaces.
• Collaborate with quality engineering to design test plans.
• Research tools and processes; document engineering practices.
• Contribute to code reviews and production-grade documentation.
• Scale existing systems to support growth and innovation.
• Prototype solutions and transition to production environments.
• Contribute to regulated development documentation.
• Apply DevOps and Agile software development practices.
