Job description

Title: Senior Embedded Controls Systems Engineer - Permanent Position
Location: Burlington, MA
Job Overview:
Required exp - Embedded Software, Algorithm Design, Control System

Design and develop control algorithms for brewer functionality, with a primary focus on heat and flow control, and expanding into fault detection using sensor data to identify safety issues and mitigate risk

Implement and modify embedded software that runs control algorithms across both consumer (at-home) and commercial (away-from-home) brewer products

Develop and maintain design guides and specifications for brewer control algorithms to ensure consistency and quality across products

Build development and test tools (e.g., serial communication and scripted tools) to monitor brewer activity, push specialized functions, and enable efficient testing and validation of brewers

Conduct code reviews and technical oversight of other engineers' solutions, signing off on designs and ensuring there are no integration or performance issues

Cross-Functional & Systems Work

Act as a technical bridge between software engineers, electrical hardware teams, structural teams, and the brew engine performance team, sitting between hardware and pure software disciplines

Partner closely with hardware and performance engineering on components such as pumps, valves, heaters, and sensors to ensure control strategies align with physical system behavior

Perform systems engineering and platforming work, evaluating sensor and control architectures to select best-in-class solutions for cost, performance, and scalability, and to reduce redundant SKUs across the portfolio

Operational & Lifecycle Support

Support products in the field, including troubleshooting returned units, performing root-cause analysis, and feeding lessons learned into next-generation designs

Apply control systems design, tuning, and experimentation techniques, including system mapping, design of experiments (DOE), and validation activities

Contribute to technical project planning, breaking large deliverables into phases, identifying dependencies, and managing technical execution alongside project timelines

What You Will Do:

Design, modify, optimize, and implement Brewer Control Algorithms on embedded software platforms for consumer and commercial products.

Develop and maintain design guides and specifications for Control Algorithms, Dev-Tools, Components, and Sub-Systems.

Maintain adherence to internal coding standards and software development best practices; Ensure that newly developed algorithms are seamlessly integrated and maintained within the production code base.

Work within an Agile development environment; Participate in code reviews, sprint planning, and cross functional integration events.

Serve as an interface between the controls/hardware development team and the embedded software team; Provide technical support and mentorship; Collaborate cross-functionally to define system requirements and resolve integration and system performance challenges.

Create and/or modify Dev & Test Tools to support parameter-based SW development and debug: Push-button control, scripting, flashing, data logging, diagnostics...etc

Build, manage, and maintain Control Algorithm and Developer Tool code repositories; Ensure proper visibility, documentation, version control, and compatibility with associated platforms and products.

Provide Systems Engineering leadership; Formal & Functional system decomposition, Failure mode analysis, structured experimentation, and phased validation planning

Support Value Engineering & Maintenance of Business Teams in delivering continuous improvements to existing product lines: Quality Improvements, Cost Optimization, and Complexity Reduction
