Job summary

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA, is seeking a Senior Electronics Technologist to develop, test, troubleshoot, evaluate, operate, and maintain complex electronic systems for the National Ignition Facility and Photon Science Directorate.

Ideal candidates will bring advanced troubleshooting and assembly skills, the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, and a commitment to safety. This full-time, on-site role offers relocation assistance and a flexible benefits package.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in electronics engineering technology, or equivalent combination of education and related electronics/electrical industrial maintenance experience.
  • Substantial experience and advanced skills in electronic troubleshooting and assembly.
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering hardware testing processes.
  • Broad experience with some aspect of advanced level electronic assembly, troubleshooting, installation, and/or maintenance.
  • Experience in safe work and business practices.
  • Experience working in a multi‑disciplinary team environment.
  • Effective written, verbal, feedback, and presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs. in a safe and controlled manner.

  • Independently identify, analyze, and provide solutions and alternate approaches to complex problems using individual creativity and judgment.
  • Develop, author, implement, assess, or modify instructional guides for repairing, calibrating, operating, and maintaining equipment and systems.
  • Interpret standards and use advanced technical skills to evaluate and recommend methods and priorities for routine electronics maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment.
  • Provide advanced technical support for engineering tests, physics experiments, and program operations.
  • Assist in developing complex test parameters, troubleshooting and testing materials, components, or systems, identifying problems, and providing input on solutions.
  • Contribute to complex preliminary design concepts and engineering decision process.
  • Prioritize and provide work and technical guidance to others by checking for accuracy, completeness, and function.
  • Plan, organize, mentor, and lead projects of limited scope to meet defined objectives and schedules.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description

We have an opening for a Senior Electronics Technologist. You will develop, test, troubleshoot, evaluate, operate, and maintain experimental, research, and prototype equipment associated with mechanical systems in the National Ignition Facility and Photon Science Directorate (NIF & PS). This position is in the Laser Systems Engineering and Operations (LSEO) Division, within the Engineering Directorate.

This position requires full‑time on‑site presence.

  • Associate degree in electronics engineering technology, or equivalent combination of education and related electronics/electrical industrial maintenance experience.

  • Advanced knowledge of engineering hardware testing processes.

Pay Range

$52.23 - $63.97 Hourly

An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.

Security Clearance

This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance. If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Also, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.
