Job summary

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is seeking Electronics Technologists to support the NIF Sustainment and NIF Enhanced Yield Capability projects. You will assist with flashlamp assembly, testing, installation, and maintenance, including high-voltage equipment and PCS bank modules, collaborating with engineers and technicians.

This full-time, on-site role requires US citizenship and the ability to obtain a DOE Q-level clearance.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or equivalent education/experience in engineering technology or electronics.
  • Experience troubleshooting and assembling electronic/photonics systems.
  • Experience with high-voltage equipment and laser environments.
  • Ability to obtain DOE Q-level clearance; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide general technical support for flashlamp cassette assembly, including drawings, builds, inspections, installation, and removal.
  • Assemble flashlamp and cassette hardware, including sensitive optics work.
  • Support flashlamp testing at the RI and AI testing facility.
  • Coordinate shipping and receiving flashlamps and lab hardware.
  • Maintain drawing packages and parts inventories with limited direction.
  • Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and other stakeholders to meet project milestones.
  • Train to become a Flash Lamp Testing Facility Operator.
  • Support preventative and reactive maintenance of high-voltage and high-energy equipment.
  • Support qualification of high-voltage components for EYC.
  • Support the development and testing of the embedded controller and data acquisition systems for the NIF power conditioning system EYC expansion.
  • Participate in commissioning and IQ of 23 PCS bank modules.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description

We have multiple openings for Electronics Technologists to support the NIF Sustainment and NIF Enhanced Yield Capability (EYC) projects within the National Ignition Facility & Photon Science (NIF&PS) Directorate. You will support flashlamp assembly, testing, installation, and maintenance work for NIF Sustainment and EYC, including work with flashlamp cassettes, high-voltage equipment, and related hardware. You will also support the installation and Installation Qualification (IQ) of 23 Power Conditioning System (PCS) bank modules, help coordinate testing, shipping and receiving, inventory, drawing control, and system commissioning activities while working with engineers, technicians, and other stakeholders to meet project goals. This position is in the Laser Systems Engineering and Operations (LSEO) Division, within the Engineering Directorate.

This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.

In this role, you will

Qualifications
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Associate's degree in engineering technology, electronics, photonics, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Intermediate knowledge and experience in electronic and/or photonics troubleshooting and assembly.
  • Intermediate knowledge of engineering hardware testing processes.
  • Experience with troubleshooting, installation, and maintenance of electronic and/or photonics systems in a large, multi-beam laser environment.
  • Experience with safe work and business practices.
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Effective written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs. in a safe and controlled manner.
Qualifications We Desire
  • Experience troubleshooting pulsed power systems.
  • Technical skills and knowledge of engineering principles to solve complex problems.
Pay Range

$43.55 - $53.36 Hourly

Security Clearance

This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.If you are selected, wewill initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if youmeet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Also, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.
