Job summary

IonQ, Inc. is seeking a Senior Electronics Technician to join the team at our College Park, MD headquarters. You will perform high-precision assembly of quantum computer control systems, including PCBA prep, box builds, and rack integration, following schematics and IPC standards.

The role demands meticulous wiring, tool use, and adherence to strict quality protocols. You will work in a cross-functional environment, ensuring connections meet IPC Class 3 reliability, supporting 5S initiatives,

Qualifications

• Minimum 2-year technical degree in Electronics/Mechatronics and 5+ years of hands-on experience in high-tech electronics manufacturing.
• Proficiency in IPC J-STD-001 soldering and IPC-A-610 assembly standards, including fine-pitch soldering and 28-32 AWG wire.
• Strong mechanical aptitude for box builds using hand tools, crimpers, and torque drivers.
• Ability to read and follow complex electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and assembly drawings.
• Experience in an ESD-controlled environment and cleanroom protocols; highly detail-oriented with excellent fine motor skills.
• Proficiency with digital documentation tools (Google Sheets, MS Office).
• IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification or significant experience in cable and wire harness assembly (preferred).
• Experience with NPI builds and providing DFM feedback to engineering teams (preferred).
• Familiarity with Netsuite ERP, MES, PLM (Arena/Agile), and Jira (preferred).
• Cryogenic system wiring or vacuum-compatible cabling experience (preferred).
• Experience in aerospace/defense/medical device manufacturing with high-reliability standards (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Perform precision through-hole and SMT assembly, including installation of standard components and tight-margin modifications.
• Assemble and wire 19" rack-mounted control chassis; mount power supplies and integrate PCBs.
• Route, dress, and terminate complex cable harnesses with proper strain relief and bend radii.
• Read electrical schematics, wire lists, and mechanical drawings to ensure correct builds.
• Capture redlines and contribute to build instruction improvements; participate in 5S and maintain ESD-safe workplace.
• Inspect own work and file Non-Conformance Reports with engineering for root-cause analysis.
