THE OPPORTUNITY
Silvus is seeking a full-time Senior Electronics Design Engineer reporting to the Engineering Manager, Product Design on the Hardware Engineering team. The successful individual in this role will participate in the development of Silvus’ MANET radios and other advanced R&D projects with an emphasis on Electronics Hardware/PCBA design. This position is on a hybrid schedule, a minimum of 3 days onsite per week is expected. On-site days are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. The location for this role is Silvus’ HQ in the heart of West Los Angeles, CA.
The following is a list of at least some of the current essential job functions of the position. Management may assign or reassign duties and responsibilities at any time at its discretion.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Component selection, schematic capture and PCB design of electrical systems based on an FPGA SoC with associated memory devices, transceivers, communication peripherals and power management circuitry
• Follow good design practices to achieve successful mixed signal PCB design.
• Define PCB stack up, materials, and design rules to meet performance requirements and manufacturing feasibility.
• Perform hardware bring-up, test, and root cause analysis on the bench, using common lab equipment.
• Work with PCB Designers, Software, FPGA, and RF teams for system-level implementation.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field plus 4 years of experience in digital circuit design; or Master of Science Degree plus 2 years of digital circuit design experience.
• Demonstrated experience with complex mixed signal PCB design.
• Experience implementing digital communication peripherals at a hardware level, such as USB 3.0, 10Gb Ethernet and RS232.
• Strong familiarity with test equipment such as DMM, bench top supply, oscilloscope, logic analyzer, spectrum analyzer.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field.
• Proven experience with Xilinx FPGAs, SoCs and the Vivado IDE.
• Audio and video circuit design experience.
• Experience with Altium Designer.
• Knowledge of compliance standards such as FCC, CE Mark and MIL-STD-461.
• Experience with MATLAB, Python, and/or C.
• Ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.
• Problem-solving, data analysis, deductive reasoning, and critical thinking skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Lift up to 20 lbs. of equipment for the set-up of demonstrations and testing.
• Occasional exposure to heat, cold, and allergens while performing tests or demonstrations in the field.
• Walking/moving in the labs.
COMPENSATION
The pay range is NOT a guarantee. It is based on market research and peer data, and will vary depending on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
CA Pay Range
$120,000 - $180,000 USD
