Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a seasoned electronics engineer to lead characterization of ECU programs and develop robust test plans. You will perform bench-level measurements, automate tests with Python, and collaborate with design, software, and QA teams.

The role requires 7+ years in electronics design and hands-on experience with automotive power systems, AI-assisted testing, and DaQ instrumentation. Irvine, CA is the base with on-site collaboration.

Qualifications

  • BS/MS or equivalent work experience in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in electronics design, characterization and validation testing.
  • Experience using oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, digital multimeters, DAQ, source measure units, current probes, and switch matrices.
  • Strong understanding of Electrical Engineering fundamentals and circuit analysis.
  • Experience in scripting and data analysis using Python.
  • Demonstrated use of AI tools such as Claude, Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor, or similar to write and refactor test code and analyze characterization data, with sound judgment about human verification.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed design verification and characterization test plans and requirements for all phases of ECU programs.
  • Execute characterization testing plans according to project milestones.
  • Own test coverage reports and analysis.
  • Perform bench-level characterization at IC and PCBA levels, including driver behavior, output limits, switching characteristics, wetting current, inrush, inductive kickback, current sense accuracy, quiescent and sleep current, and thermal derating.
  • Characterize protection and diagnostic behavior across fault conditions and verify correct ECU diagnostics.
  • Lead electronic fuse testing for Zonal ECUs, including I2T characterization, temperature repeatability, and correlation to design intent.
  • Provide early design and testability feedback to design engineers.
  • Support creation and presentation of Design for Testability reports.
  • Follow characterization schedules and communicate status with upper management and cross-functional teams.
  • Write Python automation scripts and instrumentation drivers, using AI coding agents while owning code quality, review, and validation.
  • Use AI tooling to analyze characterization datasets, identify variation and failures, and develop design or test recommendations.
  • Work with software engineers to flash, test, and troubleshoot firmware.
  • Participate in cross-functional root-cause analysis of non-compliance test results and drive findings to closure.
