Job summary

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a Sr. Principal Electronics Communications Engineer to support an electro-optical subsystem in Palmdale, El Segundo, or Rancho Bernardo, CA.

The role requires leading engineering efforts within an Integrated Product Team and delivering field-ready hardware and software solutions. The position involves on-site work with travel up to 25% (Palmdale up to 10%), a strict requirement for Top-Secret clearance, and possible SCI/SAP clearances.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline with 8+ years of relevant engineering experience, or Master’s with 6+ years, or PhD with 4+ years.
• Experience with electro-optical, sensors and/or communications systems across development, test, integration and operations.
• Familiarity with systems engineering processes at sub-system, system and system-of-systems levels.
• Active US Government Top-Secret Clearance (or in Continuous Evaluation).
• Ability to obtain and maintain US Government SCI clearance and SAP clearance.

Responsibilities

• Installation, integration, test and troubleshooting of HW and SW in the field.
• On-site lab and field support for test events.
• Develop updates to technical manuals.
• Coordinate with ground HW, SW and networking teams to optimize subsystem performance.
• Define support equipment requirements and guide the SE design team.
• Perform sustaining engineering to maintain hardware and software.
• Support configuration management of HW/SW.
• Analyze data for subsystem performance using MATLAB.
• Generate and present reports on subsystem performance to management and customers.
• Resolve squawks and link anomalies.
• Develop and manage risks, issues and opportunities.
• Maintain baseline system documents (ICDs, specs).
• Provide technical direction to suppliers as part of the Supplier Management Team.
