Job summary

Vast, based in Long Beach, California, is seeking a Senior Electronic Parts Engineer to support the design and build of human-rated space stations and high-power satellite buses. You will lead parts control, advise on part selection, and ensure reliability across aerospace programs.

You will collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain, apply standards such as EEE-INST-002 and NASA-STD-8739.11, and travel up to 10% as needed, while contributing to a culture of safety and excellence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering, physics, material science, computer engineering, mechanical engineering, or related discipline and 5+ years of experience working in an engineering role
• Or Associate’s Degree in related discipline and 12 years of relevant experience
• Deep understanding of electronics piece parts for space applications

Responsibilities

• Develop, deploy, and operate Electrical, Electronic, and Electromechanical (EEE or Triple-E) Parts Control Plan for Vast’s human-rated space station and high-power satellite bus programs
• Tailor from industry standards such as EEE-INST-002, NASA-STD-8739.11, etc. for balancing high reliability, low cost, and development rate of Vast avionics products
• Manage Vast EEE Parts Database for vendor/part screening and part qualification, and monitor against industry standard resources such as GIDEP, SiliconExpert, Z2Data, etc
• Advise design engineers on electronic part selection and design for reliability, such as FMECA/PFMECA and reliability design of experiments
• Support component failure analysis through processes such as NDA, DPA, X-Ray, CT Scan, SEM, Cross-Sectioning, etc
• Foster a strong interdisciplinary relationship with other teams that rely on the Electronic Parts team to be successful across Vast Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain
• Exemplify a culture of excellence, extreme ownership, and safety

Vast is developing next-generation space stations and space infrastructure using an incremental, hardware-rich, and low-cost approach. Vast is rapidly developing its multi-module Haven Station to ensure a continuous human presence in space for America and its allies, enabling advanced microgravity research and manufacturing, and unlocking a new space economy for government, corporate, and private customers. Haven Demo’s 2025 success made Vast the only operational commercial space station company to fly and operate its own spacecraft. Next, Haven-1 is expected to become the world’s first commercial space station when it launches in 2027, followed by additional Haven modules. Vast is looking for a Senior Electronic Parts Engineer , reporting to the Senior Manager, EMI-EMC to support the development of the systems that will be required for the design and build of human-rated space stations and high-power satellite buses.

This will be a full-time, exempt position located in our Long Beach location.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering, physics, material science, computer engineering, mechanical engineering, or related discipline and 5+ years of experience working in an engineering role

• Deep understanding of electronics piece parts for space applications

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Master’s Degree or PhD in electrical engineering, physics, material science, computer engineering, mechanical engineering, or related discipline
• Prior experience in an electronic parts, semiconductors, or electrical systems design role
• Experience with electronic component selection, derating, and reliability analysis for space applications, including familiarity with standards such as EEE-INST-002, NASA-STD-8739.11, MIL-HDBK-217F, and ECSS/ESA standards
• Experience with software development in MATLAB, Python, etc. especially for database programming and data analytics
• Knowledge of radiation effects on components (TID, SEE) and experience developing and advising on radiation test and mitigation plans
• Experience with electronics survivability including electrostatic discharge (ESD)
• Understanding of configuration management, requirements traceability, and quality assurance practices for electronics components in space engineering environment
• Strong sense of accountability and integrity with excellent written/verbal communication and presentation skills
• Ability to teach people of a multitude of education and industry backgrounds about Survivability

Additional Requirements

• Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
• Willingness to work overtime, or weekends to support critical mission milestones
• Ability to lift up to 25lbs unassisted

Pay Range: California

$112,340—$230,472 USD
