Job description

Job Title: Senior Power Electronics Engineer

Employment Type: Full-Time

Compensation: $150,000 – $200,000 + Equity

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Power Electronics Engineer to design and take full ownership of power systems and power electronics boards for high-speed, next-generation flight vehicles.

You will join a small, elite avionics team where engineers personally build and make hardware work, not just manage requirements or oversee vendors. This is a high-impact role where you will own critical vehicle subsystems end-to-end, from initial schematic capture and layout through bring-up, debugging, testing, and production integration.

Prior defense experience is not required. We strongly value hands-on circuit design talent from aerospace, automotive, robotics, electric vehicles, or any hardware-intensive engineering environment.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • PCBA Design & Hardware Ownership: Design power electronics PCBAs, including motor controllers, DC-DC converters, inverters, high-power switches, and power distribution systems for advanced flight vehicles.
  • Full-Lifecycle Execution: Own your hardware end-to-end, driving designs from initial schematic design to lab bring-up, hardware debugging, qualification testing, and production integration.
  • System-Level Power Architecture: Define system requirements and architect the overall vehicle power distribution story in a system context (no separate systems engineering team, you own the outcome).
  • High-Power Vehicle Avionics: Engineer high-voltage and high-current power architectures for electromechanical actuators, power filtering, and power bus sizing.
  • Ground Support: Support ground power equipment and support electronics alongside flight vehicle hardware development.
What We Are Looking For
  • Experience: 3+ years of hands-on power electronics design experience (motor controllers, DC-DC converters, inverters, or power distribution PCBAs).
  • Technical Depth: Demonstrated experience in power electronics circuit design, high-power layouts, and PCB design using Altium (or equivalent EDA tools).
  • Tooling Proficiency: Familiarity with circuit simulation and analytical tools (SPICE, MATLAB/Simulink).
  • High-Ownership Mindset: Personal commitment to physically testing, troubleshooting, and delivering working hardware rather than managing from the sidelines.
  • Education: Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Location & Clearance Eligibility: Must be a U.S. Citizen (eligible for security clearance) and based in or willing to relocate to the Greater Los Angeles Area for 100% on-site work.
Why Apply?
  • Direct Impact: Build real, flying hardware with direct ownership over mission-critical flight subsystems.
  • Competitive Compensation: Top-of-market base salary ($150K to $200K) + high-upside equity package.
  • Elite Technical Team: Work alongside high-caliber engineers in a fast-paced, high-velocity hardware design environment.
