Thea Energy in the United States seeks a Senior Electromechanical Engineer to lead web handling in Reel-to-Reel processes, shaping core manufacturing infrastructure and transitioning from R&D to high-reliability production.

You will design hardware and controls, act as SME for tension control, winding dynamics, and inline inspection, and drive throughput improvements across supplier networks.

Qualifications

• BS, MS, or PhD in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related fields.
• 8+ years of electromechanical design and commissioning of reel-to-reel equipment.
• Experience with Beckhoff/TwinCAT 3, EtherCAT, and structured text programming.
• 3D CAD experience (NX preferred) with validation via FEA or MBD.

Responsibilities

• Design hardware and controls for bespoke reel-to-reel process machines.
• Serve as SME for roll-to-roll tension control and web handling.
• Design equipment for fragile high-temp superconducting tape with zero-defect tolerance.
• Manage external vendors/integrators for large-scale equipment.
• Design inline inspection systems (vision, laser interferometry) for data capture.
• Develop long-term manufacturing throughput strategies to increase yield.
