Job summary

Electrified Thermal Solutions is seeking a Senior Electrical Systems Engineer to lead megawatt-scale electrical design for the Joule Hive thermal battery. You will work with the VP of Engineering to ensure cost, timeline and performance targets are met across complex power and control systems.

The role requires a BS in electrical engineering with 7+ years of design experience, plus 3+ years in MV power systems and diagram creation. A PE license is a plus and collaboration is essential.

Qualifications

• BS in electrical engineering with 7+ years of electrical system design and deployment experience.
• 3+ years developing, evaluating and deploying large medium voltage (10+ kV) electrical power systems.
• 3+ years creating electrical diagrams (wiring, SLD, three-line diagrams).
• Professional Engineering license in electrical engineering is a plus.
• Strong communication, organization, and collaborative problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of Megawatt-scale electrical system and controls for Joule Hive thermal battery products.
• Develop electrical analysis and simulation methodologies to support system design.
• Review work from contractors on electrical and controls system design, fabrication and installation.
• Collaborate with design team to ensure optimal designs meet requirements and timelines.
• Mentor junior engineers and support on-site installation and commissioning as needed.

Boilers, furnaces, and kilns are the engines of our industrial economy, providing heat to melt steel, form cement, and transform chemicals. But historically reaching this high-temperature heat required burning fossil fuels, making the industrial sector responsible for 25% of global greenhouse gas emissions.

To do this, we are building the Joule Hive™ thermal battery: an energy storage technology that converts and stores cheap, renewable electricity as high-temperature heat. Our vision is to mitigate gigatons of CO2 emissions per year by deploying the Joule Hive™ at every industrial furnace, turbine, boiler, and kiln.

As a Senior Electrical Systems Engineer, you will lead the design of the power electrical system for the Joule Hive™ thermal battery products. You will play a key role in ensuring the electrical system and associated controls can meet cost, timeline and requirements. You will report directly to the VP of Engineering.

What You’ll Do

• Lead the design of the Megawatt-scale electrical system and associated controls for the Joule Hive™ Thermal Battery and subsequent products/projects.
• Lead the development of electrical analysis/simulation methodologies to support system design.
• Manage and review work from contractors working on electrical and controls system design, fabrication and installation.
• Collaborate with the rest of the design team to enable an optimal design that meets requirements.
• Keep up with the latest tools and programs; perform technical research and self-training as needed.
• Perform site‑specific electrical system studies and designs with customers to enable project execution
• Lead hiring, training and mentoring junior engineers
• Support on‑site system installation and commissioning as necessary

What You’ll Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with at least seven years of electrical system design and deployment experience.
• At least 3 years of experience developing, evaluating and deploying large medium voltage (10+ kV) electrical power systems (switch gears, medium voltage drives, etc.)
• At least 3 years of experience creating electrical diagrams (wiring, SLD, three‑line diagrams, etc.).
• Professional Engineering license in electrical engineering in a plus.
• Experience designing and developing power electronic equipment and their associated controls from scratch is a plus.
• Experience devising creative design solutions without losing focus on the defined scope and timeline.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• A collaborative, highly adaptable spirit, and a love of challenging assumptions.
