Halff Associates, Inc. is seeking a Senior Electrical Modeling Engineer to join our Energy Practice in San Antonio, Texas. You will lead power system studies, develop and maintain models using ETAP, SKM, CYME, and other platforms, and mentor junior engineers.
This role emphasizes reliability, safety, and efficiency, collaborating across transmission, distribution, substation, and renewable energy projects while supporting business development and client deliverables.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license, preferably in Texas or ability to obtain Texas reciprocity.
- 10+ years of experience in electric power systems engineering and modeling.
- Strong experience performing power system studies for utility, industrial, renewable, or consulting engineering projects.
- Proficiency with one or more electrical modeling software platforms, including ETAP, SKM PowerTools, CYME, ASPEN OneLiner, PowerWorld, PSSE, PSCAD, or similar.

Senior Electrical Modeling Engineer, Energy
Halff has an immediate opening for a Senior Electrical Engineer - Modeling to join our rapidly growing Energy Practice in San Antonio, Texas. This position is ideal for an experienced electrical engineer who is passionate about power system analysis, modeling, and the design of reliable electric power infrastructure.
As a key member of our Energy team, you will lead and perform technical studies that support electric utility, cooperative, municipal, industrial, and renewable energy projects. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in electrical system modeling, transmission and distribution analysis, and power system planning while serving as a technical mentor and trusted advisor to clients.

- Perform and lead power system modeling and analysis studies for transmission, distribution, substation, and generation facilities.
- Develop and maintain electrical system models using software such as ETAP, SKM, CYME, ASPEN, PSSE, PowerWorld, PSCAD, or similar platforms.
- Conduct:
- Load flow studies
- Short-circuit studies
- Arc flash evaluations
- Protection and coordination studies
- Voltage drop analysis
- Motor starting studies
- Harmonic analysis
- Reliability and contingency assessments
- Support utility planning initiatives and system expansion efforts.
- Analyze system performance and recommend solutions that improve reliability, safety, and operational efficiency.
- Prepare technical reports, calculations, specifications, and client deliverables.
- Collaborate with transmission, distribution, substation, renewable energy, and civil engineering teams.
- Participate in project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and quality assurance activities.
- Serve as a technical resource during project execution and client meetings.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers and EITs.
- Support business development efforts, proposal preparation, and client relationship management.
- Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, NESC, NEC, IEEE, and utility requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.

- 10+ years of experience in electric power systems engineering and modeling.

- Strong understanding of transmission, distribution, substation, and generation systems.
- Knowledge of IEEE, NESC, NEC, and utility design standards.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and technical writing skills.
- Experience managing projects and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience supporting electric utilities, cooperatives, municipal utilities, or power generation clients.
- Experience with renewable energy interconnection studies.
- Experience with NERC, ERCOT, or regional transmission organization requirements.
- Project management experience.
- Prior mentoring or technical leadership experience.
