Job summary

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory seeks an experienced Senior Electrical & Materials Technician to support Knolls SES RPI&C lab infrastructure, qualify test systems, and help develop the next generation of nuclear propulsion test capabilities. You will perform test coordination, calibration, and safety-compliant maintenance in a fast-paced lab environment.

Applicants should have a strong background in electrical hardware, control systems, and hands-on fabrication, with experience reading schematics

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with 5+ years relevant experience, or an Associate degree with 5+ years, or Journeyman papers with 5+ years, or Naval Nuclear Propulsion Operator qualification with 5+ years, or a Bachelor's with 3+ years.

Responsibilities

Job Description

The NNL electrical community maintains a suite of laboratories that are used to qualify Reactor Plant Instrumentation and Control (RPI&C) software and hardware, enable swift response to fleet support activities, and to support crew familiarization with RPI&C systems.

The Knolls Shipboard Electrical Systems (SES) RPI&C infrastructure team is responsible for maintaining and modernizing the existing RPI&C test system infrastructure at Knolls site and, in close collaboration with counterparts across the program, developing, testing, qualifying, and delivering the test infrastructure for the next generation of RPI&C systems.

The Knolls System Infrastructure Development (SID) unit is looking for an experienced Senior Electrical & Materials Technician in pursuit of the mission described above.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to executing common laboratory functions such as support of testing, troubleshooting, coordination and/or performance of periodic facility tests and preventative maintenance required to support a fully capable laboratory, executing work packages required to maintain and modernize the lab's test systems and test articles, ensuring that work packages are performed safely and in compliance with company and Program requirements, managing the calibration of test equipment and inventories of parts and equipment and developing less senior personnel in the organization.

Required Combination Of Knowledge And Skill

High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience; or Associates degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Journeymans Papers in a related field and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Qualification as a Naval Nuclear Propulsion Operator (or commercial nuclear equivalent) and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Skills

• Hands-on experience with control systems and electronic components.
• Experience using laboratory test setups to develop and qualify control systems.
• Strong fabrication skills, including soldering, wiring, assembling connectors, working confidently with hand tools, and reading schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Familiarity with NR Program or commercial operational practices, including planning and performing electrical work.
• Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize and complete tasks effectively.

Pay Range

$70,900.00 - $108,500.00 annually
