Job summary

Howard County Government is seeking an Electrical Inspector with a Maryland Master General Electrician's License to perform field inspections and ensure compliance with the National Electrical Code. The role involves documenting results, reviewing plans, and testifying in legal proceedings when required.

Minimum qualifications include a High School Diploma or GED, six years of related experience, and a valid driver’s license. Certification in ICC Electrical Inspector levels is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED and six years of related experience.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license.
• Master’s General Electrician license.
• ICC Residential Electrical Inspector Certification (E1) preferred.
• ICC Commercial Electrical Inspector Certification (E2) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Reads and interprets approved construction and shop drawings of electrical installations.
• Reviews electrical plans, materials lists, specifications, and methods of installation.
• Interprets codes and provides guidance to contractors, engineers, architects, craft-workers, and property owners.
• Inspects electrical installations in new, remodeled, or altered residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.
• Calculates and confirms electrical loads and demand factors to ensure compliance with the National Electrical Code.
• Performs field inspections to confirm adherence to codes, standards, and approved plans.
• Documents inspections, testifies in court when required, and maintains case histories.
