Department: Strategic Engineering | Reports to: James Trebesch, Head of Strategic Engineering | Employment: Full-Time
Office Location: Palo Alto, California
Proposed Annual Base Salary: $175,000–$235,000
Plus significant equity and comprehensive benefits.
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Electrical Infrastructure Engineer to lead the development, optimization, and standardization of electrical infrastructure systems for Remanie’s configurable AI data-center solutions. The role owns electrical system architecture, establishes technical design standards, and directs outside engineering firms and equipment suppliers responsible for detailed design and execution. The engineer will work closely with software teams to turn electrical engineering expertise into automated configuration rules, equipment selection logic, bills of materials, and procurement workflows. This is a technical leadership and infrastructure product development role, not a traditional design production position.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Architecture & Standardization
- Own Remanie’s electrical reference architectures, technical requirements, and reusable design standards.
- Establish configurable power distribution systems based on GPU type, rack density, compute capacity, redundancy requirements, and expansion plans.
- Define electrical infrastructure from utility service and substations to transformers, switchgear, UPS, generators, busway, and rack-level distribution.
- Optimize architectures for capital cost, efficiency, reliability, equipment availability, constructability, and deployment speed.
- Evaluate alternative redundancy strategies, on-site power technologies, and supplier configurations.
- Eliminate avoidable design variation through modular architectures, standard specifications, and approved equivalent equipment.
Engineering Software & Procurement Development
- Translate technical requirements into structured software inputs, constraints, compatibility rules, and configuration logic.
- Help software teams generate preliminary electrical configurations, equipment schedules, bills of materials, and procurement packages.
- Define standardized technical specifications and qualified vendor alternatives for equipment-selection workflows.
- Incorporate lead times, manufacturing capacity, supplier availability, and cost into engineering optimization decisions.
- Validate software-generated configurations and establish limits, exceptions, and engineering review triggers.
- Continuously capture field and supplier lessons to improve automated designs and procurement logic.
External Engineering & Vendor Leadership
- Direct external engineering consultants performing detailed calculations, permitting support, drawings, and construction documentation.
- Set scopes of work, design criteria, deliverable expectations, and technical review and acceptance requirements.
- Review and challenge consultant designs and equipment proposals against Remanie standards, performance, cost, and schedule objectives.
- Coordinate equipment manufacturers, suppliers, contractors, and engineering firms on design and installation improvements.
- Support procurement, construction, testing, commissioning, and technical issue resolution; external licensed engineers retain applicable engineer-of-record responsibilities.
Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration
- Coordinate with compute, networking, mechanical, and civil engineers to establish integrated reference solutions.
- Interpret NVIDIA and other AI compute reference designs to determine facility power requirements.
- Participate in customer requirements discussions, feasibility assessments, and procurement decisions.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
- Significant experience with hyperscale data centers, mission-critical facilities, or large industrial electrical infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of medium- and low-voltage distribution, redundancy, power system protection, and reliability.
- Experience directing external engineering consultants or leading multidisciplinary technical design decisions.
- Proven ability to optimize engineering designs for performance, cost, constructability, and repeatability.
- Experience evaluating electrical equipment and vendor alternatives; familiarity with applicable NEC, NFPA, and IEEE standards.
- Ability to independently review complex designs, challenge assumptions, and explain tradeoffs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Modular or standardized data-center electrical architecture experience; owner’s engineering or technical design authority background.
- Prefabricated electrical equipment, modular substations, or standardized power packages.
- High-density GPU infrastructure, liquid-cooled AI facilities, or large-scale power infrastructure.
- Engineering configurators, parametric design systems, or experience translating engineering logic into software requirements.
- Equipment procurement, supplier qualification, and long-lead equipment strategy.
What Success Looks Like
- A validated library of reusable electrical reference architectures and qualified vendor alternatives.
- Software-driven electrical configuration, equipment selection, and bill-of-material generation.
- Less repetitive engineering, more predictable procurement, and faster deployment through effective oversight of outside engineering partners.
Why Join Remanie
This foundational role reports directly to the Head of Strategic Engineering and shapes the electrical backbone of Remanie’s engineering and procurement platform. Software coding is not required; the ability to translate engineering expertise into clear, scalable product requirements is essential. As the platform evolves, the same engineering and procurement capabilities may also support adjacent markets such as robotics and industrial automation.
Compensation
$175,000–$235,000 base plus significant equity. We also offer medical, dental and vision coverage, flexible PTO, daily meals, and whatever AI tools you need.
Salary ranges are proposed; equity subject to applicable plan terms.
