Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Senior Hardware Engineer – MCU Performance Analysis to lead MCU performance modeling, benchmarking, and analysis for SDV platforms. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 7+ years of MCU/embedded performance analysis or related experience.
  • Strong understanding of MCU/CPU architecture, pipelines, caches, memory subsystems, buses/interconnects, peripherals, interrupts, real-time constraints.
  • Demonstrated experience defining structured performance analysis plans with objectives, workloads, metrics, and traceability to requirements.
  • Hands-on experience profiling, hotspot analysis, and optimizing embedded/MCU-based systems across performance, power, and memory.
  • Experience developing automation, tools, or scripts for performance analysis and data processing (e.g., Python, C/C++).
  • Experience in workload and benchmark selection, analysis, and development.
  • Ability to present performance insights and trade-offs to stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Define MCU performance analysis strategies with KPIs, workloads, benchmarks, and pass/fail criteria.
  • Develop performance specifications to support architecture trade-offs and ECU decisions.
  • Identify and resolve bottlenecks across cores, memory, interconnects, peripherals, and software stacks.

We are seeking a highly skilled and driven Senior Hardware Engineer – MCU Performance Analysis to join our Semiconductor Center of Excellence. In this pivotal role, you will lead the definition, development, and execution of MCU performance analysis strategies for state‑of‑the‑art microcontroller solutions used in next‑generation automotive electronics platforms.

You will be responsible for MCU‑centric performance modeling, analysis, and correlation, including workload and benchmark definition, silicon performance simulations, measurement and debug to ensure our MCU platforms meet functional, performance, efficiency, and real‑time requirements from concept through production.

What You’ll Do
  • Define MCU performance analysis strategies, including KPIs, workloads, benchmarks, coverage goals, and pass/fail criteria
  • Develop performance and design specifications to support sourcing, architecture trade-offs, and ECU/system decisions
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks across cores, memory, interconnects, peripherals, and software stacks
  • Build and maintain MCU performance models to support architectural exploration, sizing studies, and what‑if analyses
  • Select or develop representative workloads and benchmarks for automotive use cases such as real‑time control, diagnostics, safety monitoring, communications, and signal processing
  • Create and maintain automation, tools, and scripts for analysis, data collection, and reporting using Python, C/C++, or similar languages
  • Partner with hardware, ECU, and software teams to translate system requirements into measurable performance targets and test cases
  • Present performance insights, trade‑offs, and recommendations to technical and non‑technical stakeholders
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in MCU or embedded processor performance analysis, modeling, or embedded systems development.
  • Strong understanding of MCU/CPU architecture, including pipelines, caches, memory subsystems, buses/interconnects, peripherals, interrupts, and real‑time constraints.
  • Demonstrated experience defining and executing structured performance analysis plans, including definition of objectives, workloads, metrics, and traceability to system requirements.
  • Hands‑on experience analyzing and optimizing embedded/MCU‑based systems, including profiling, hotspot analysis, and trade‑offs across performance, power, and memory.
  • Experience developing automation, tools, or scripts for performance analysis and data processing (for example, Python, C/C++, or similar scripting environments).

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience with automotive or other safety‑critical MCUs and ECUs, including real‑time and functional safety consideration.
