Voyager Technologies, Inc. in Pittsburgh, PA seeks a Senior Electrical Hardware Engineer (Avionics) to drive the design, manufacture oversight and testing of spacecraft avionics hardware. You will contribute to documentation supporting software, component acceptance testing, and assembly/integration on site.

The role reports to the Electronic Systems Manager within the Lunar Systems group in Pittsburgh. Eight-plus years of hardware development and strong collaboration across teams are essential.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years electronics hardware development experience, with leading small teams on complex products.
  • Schematic and board design proficiency across common EDA tools.
  • Experience with requirements, risks, and integration flow in systems engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Develop flight hardware avionics including computing, signal conditioning, control electronics, filtering, data acquisition, and C&DH.
  • Provide technical guidance to internal teams and partners; manage schedule and budget for subsystems.

The Senior Electrical Hardware Engineer (Avionics) for Voyager Lunar Systems is responsible for the technical design, manufacturing oversight, and testing of avionics hardware across spacecraft subsystems, along with the documentation supporting software development, component acceptance testing, and assembly/integration.

The position reports to the Electronic Systems Manager and is part of the Lunar Systems group based in Pittsburgh, PA. This role is onsite in Pittsburgh, PA.

In this role, the essential functions are:
  • Develop flight hardware avionics — computing, signal conditioning, control electronics, filtering, data acquisition, and C&DH
  • Provide technical and programmatic guidance to internal team members, subcontractors, consultants, and partner support personnel
  • Manage schedule, budget, and design performance for an assigned LRU or Avionics subsystem, delegating tasks across a multi-disciplinary team
  • Perform trade studies and analyze/verify spacecraft operating modes by designing, fabricating, and testing integrated avionics systems
  • Work with partners and suppliers to identify cost-effective, technically optimal solutions, including researching and selecting vendor components that meet mission needs
  • Test fabricated PCBs and integrated avionics systems, developing test scripts and simulations as needed
  • Participate in environmental and qualification testing of engineering and flight design units
  • Deliver technical reports on test results and advancements in avionics and power systems
Minimum Qualifications :
  • 8+ years electronics hardware development experience; B.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering or equivalent work experience
  • Component/LRU electrical design experience, with ability to mentor and lead small engineering teams on complex products
  • Systems engineering experience controlling requirements, risks, and integration flow
  • Schematic and board design proficiency (Altium, Eagle, OrCAD, or similar)
  • Rapid prototyping and strong debugging skills
  • Experience with communications protocols (RS-422/RS-485/CAN/Ethernet/SPI/I2C/UART)
  • Digital, analog, and signal conditioning design skills
  • Strong communication, technical writing, and MS Office proficiency
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project, JIRA, or similar task management and scheduling tools
  • Knowledge of Range Safety and Ground Safety electronics compliance
  • Capable of using mechanical CAD tools to develop avionics systems
  • Capable of programming FPGAs, microcontrollers, computer processors, graphic processors, or similar
  • Knowledge of NASA-STD 4001 and NASA-STD 4003 or similar
  • Knowledge of space environmental tests
  • Experience testing for MIL-STD 461 or similar
  • M.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering
  • Experience developing spacecraft electronics systems for a Class D unmanned spacecraft or similar
  • Experience in high-speed digital printed circuit board design
  • Experience implementing VITA VPX or SpaceVPX standards (VITA 46.0, VITA 65.0, VITA 78.0)
Travel, Physical, and/or Government Mandated Requirements:
  • Travel up to 20%, including the possibility of overnights to support component environmental and qualification testing
  • Ability to lift, move or carry items or equipment up to 25 pounds
