Job summary

Voyager Technologies in Houston, TX, is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to design, test, and operate spaceflight avionics and electrical hardware. You will lead other engineers, drive technical reviews, and ensure compliance with Voyager Space Exploration and NASA requirements.

The role reports to the Senior Director of Engineering and requires a Bachelor’s in EE with 10+ years of space electronics experience, PCB design proficiency, and strong mentoring abilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field is required.
  • 10+ years of experience in electrical design and development.
  • Proven track record in designing, testing, and integrating electrical systems for space applications.
  • Experience with PCB design including schematic layout, routing, symbol and footprint creation, and fabrication files.
  • Proficiency with test equipment: digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers, and related tools.

Responsibilities

  • Design & develop space-qualified electronics, including power systems, C&DH, flight computers, sensors, and analog/digital circuits.
  • Author and maintain technical documentation such as assembly instructions, test procedures, interface requirements, and test reports.
  • Conduct electrical testing and troubleshooting; oversee qualification and acceptance testing on safety-critical flight hardware.
  • Review payload designs for compatibility with NASA requirements.
  • Support proposals, document technical approaches, and provide status updates to leadership and program management.
  • Maintain traceability controls for electrical components, systems, lab tools, and test equipment.

The Principal Electrical Engineer for space technologyis responsible for designing, testing, integrating, and operating spaceflight avionics and electrical hardware while providing technical leadership to other electrical engineers.

The position reports to the Senior Director of Engineering and is part of the Engineering team based in Houston, TX.

In this role, the essential functions are:
  • Design & develop space-qualified electronics - including power systems, command and data handling, flight computers, sensors, and digital/analog circuits - encompassing full PCB design from schematic to fabrication files.
  • Author and maintain technical documentation including assembly instructions, test procedures, interface requirements, and test and analysis reports.
  • Conduct electrical testing and troubleshooting using standard test and measurement equipment; perform and oversee qualification and acceptance testing on safety-critical flight hardware.
  • Review payload designs and provide feedback to ensure compatibility and compliance with Voyager Space Exploration and NASA requirements.
  • Support program execution by contributing to proposal efforts, documenting technical approaches, and delivering regular status updates to Engineering and Program/Project management.
  • Maintain traceability controls for electrical components, systems, lab tools, and test equipment throughout the development lifecycle.

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field required
Experience:
  • 10+ years of experience in electrical design and development
  • Proven track record in designing, testing, and integrating electrical systems for space applications
  • Experience with PCB design including schematic layout, routing, symbol and footprint creation, and generation of fabrication files
  • Proficiency with test equipment: digital multi-meters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers, and associated measurement tools
  • Experience leading technical reviews and presenting to internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience providing mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and team members
  • Ability to support proposal efforts and contribute to cost and schedule estimates
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Extensive experience in the Space Hardware industry preferred
Travel, Physical and/or Government Mandated Requirements:
  • Travel up to 30%, including the possibility of overnights, both foreign and domestic, to launch sites, customer facilities, and NASA/Government centers
  • Ability to lift, move or carry items or equipment up to 10 pounds
