Hunt Electric is seeking an experienced Estimator 3/Sr. Estimator to drive business development and prepare complete electrical estimates for mission critical projects.

You will interpret multi-disciplinary drawings, lead bid reviews, prepare quotations for materials and subcontracts, and collaborate with leadership to shape bid strategy. The role requires 8+ years in electrical estimating, NEC knowledge, and strong proficiency in estimating software and Bluebeam.

Qualifications

  • Must have strong estimating skills for electrical projects and bid preparation.
  • Experience training estimator I/II is preferred.
  • Proficient in electrical NEC and design/build estimating.
  • Strong MS Office skills, especially Excel, and reliable estimating software.
  • Knowledge of Bluebeam and electrical estimating tools.
  • Ability to work autonomously and lead small estimating teams.

The Estimator 3/Sr. Estimator is responsible for business development and the preparation of complete electrical estimates of mission critical projects. Complete estimates include all quotations and subcontractors required for the project. A high degree of accuracy, communication, and attention to detail is required.

Job Description
Role & Responsibilities
  • Accurately interpret the design drawings and specifications submitted. This includes all design drawings from all disciplines including civil, structural, architectural, and mechanical drawings
  • Schedule and participate in estimating kickoff meetings.
  • Perform the pre-bid bid reviews with the Estimating Team including the Director of Estimator.
  • Lead final bid reviews with the entire Estimating Team.
  • Prepare quotation of materials and subcontracts.
  • Review and understand the Electrical and Low Voltage Systems specifications.
  • Review bid documents and attend pre-bid meetings and job walks to determine the scope of work.
  • Participate in interview prep meetings, customer interviews, and respond to customer questions.
  • Participate in committee and department meetings.
  • Identity and develop estimating standards.
  • Accurately estimate labor, materials, and administrative costs for projects.
  • Lead small teams of estimators tasked with preparing estimates for large projects.
  • Assist the Director of Estimator with scheduling of estimating resources and planning required to ensure timely and accurate completion of estimates.
  • Complete bid forms and prepare necessary supporting documentation.
  • Create scope of work documents which accurately describe the inclusions, assumptions and clarifications used in preparing bid estimates.
  • Develop scopes of work and/or bid leveling documents used in soliciting quotes for third-party products and services. Capable of leveling bidders to ensure complete scopes of work and accurate cost information.
  • Collaborate with the Business Development team and/or division leadership to develop a bid strategy specific to each opportunity.
  • Verify and maintain detailed records of estimate revisions and other supporting documents as needed, to serve as back-up for open book projects.
  • Verify completion of the estimator check list.
  • Facilitate communication with the Sales and Preconstruction team as well as Designers, Project Managers, General Foreman, and others to resolve issues throughout the project.
  • Utilize estimating software to properly estimate projects, enter data, and perform takeoffs.
  • Assist with the development of training and mentorship programs.
  • Develop and mentor talent.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) year degree in related field or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in electrical conceptual estimating, low voltage estimating, National Electrical Code requirements, and design/build estimating required.
  • Experience training and mentoring Estimator I and Estimator 2's preferred.
  • Strong computerized estimating skills using electrical estimating software; experience with Accubid or Enterprise is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge in the use of Bluebeam software for estimating and construction-related purposes.
  • Strong mathematical skills, coupled with strong Microsoft Office skills (with an emphasis on Excel) are mandatory requirements for this position.
  • Competent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Additionally, presentation skills are highly desirable.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload in a manner that ensures timely and accurate completion of all assigned tasks.
  • Ability to work in both an autonomous environment, as well as part of a larger team.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • Effective time management skills and ability to manage workload and meet deadlines.

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, filing cabinets, photocopiers and fax machines.
  • Employees are frequently required to sit, and occasionally required to kneel, reach, stoop, crouch or crawl.
  • This position requires the ability to lift files, open file cabinets, and bend or stand as necessary.
  • This position may occasionally lift up to 10 pounds.
