Job description

Location: Woodbridge, NJ

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Estimator to support our New Jersey operations. The role involves developing, creating, and preparing construction electrical cost estimates for a diverse set of projects in the early stages of development and continuing to support the project team with updated cost information throughout the construction phase.

Responsibilities
  • Review all construction drawings to ensure scope accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare quantity take-offs to establish the base contract scope of work.
  • Ensure a complete review of field conditions, specifications and drawings.
  • Ability to prepare conceptual budget estimates based on architectural renderings and engineering basis of designs (B.O.D.’s).
  • Identify scopes of work that have been omitted and ensure appropriate tracking/qualifications.
  • Develop and maintain effective working subcontractor relationships.
  • Solicit subcontractor bids for assigned projects with trade costs totaling $20 - $100 million.
  • Review and analyze bids for conformance to project specifications, price, material quality, insurance, labor rates, and related items.
  • Discuss and effectively resolve any questions with subcontractor.
  • Collaborate closely with the project estimator to ensure awareness of any potential issues.
  • Follow approved estimating practices with knowledge of NEC electrical codes.
  • Maintain current information on trends in and changes to existing construction codes.
  • Utilize appropriate software programs to calculate, record and track estimates.
  • Attend client meetings, answer questions and resolve issues regarding pricing and estimates; ensure client satisfaction.
  • Analyze change order pricing to ensure accuracy on material costs and labor rates.
  • Determine material and labor requirements and prepare itemized lists. Compute cost factors and prepare estimates used for planning, organizing, and scheduling work; preparing bids; selecting vendors or subcontractors; and determining cost effectiveness.
  • Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hours and related cost data or effect cost reductions. Consult with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues. Obtain support and commitment to the cost estimates.
  • Organize and manage a centralized cost estimating database and a formal process to support cost estimating.
  • Analyze completed projects to compare estimated costs to actual costs and determine the reason for any discrepancies. Provide improvement recommendations to cost estimating procedures to reduce future discrepancies between estimated and actual costs. Identify cost trends to assist management in cost reduction and process improvement efforts.
Qualifications
  • BS or BA required. Preferred areas of study include construction, management, electrical engineering or architecture.
  • 10+ years of experience in estimating, construction engineering/project engineering, or related duties in construction management estimating and purchasing.
  • Open to considering individuals looking to transition from field operations into the preconstruction division.
  • Requires excellent computer skills (MS Office/Excel/Beck Destini) and well-developed budgeting, purchasing and organizational skills.
  • Earn and maintain trust by demonstrating honesty, accountability and reliability.

Salary: $165,000 - $200,000

In addition to base pay, eligible for discretionary bonus based on company and individual performance.
