Job summary

Job Overview

Senior Electrical Engineer – Focus on High Speed Digital, Computing and A/V Electronics. Located in Santa Clara, CA. Part of Johnson & Johnson Robotics and Digital Solutions (RAD) group. The role involves designing, integrating, and testing advanced embedded digital systems for robotic surgery platforms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Architect, integrate and test embedded acoustic and video systems using off‑the‑shelf and semi‑custom components.
  • Architect, develop, design, and test printed circuit board assemblies (PCBA) of varying complexity.
  • Own full lifecycle designs of PCBA including design, technical reviews, prototyping, detailed test, design and release documentation.
  • Work closely with cross‑functional teammates to develop robust architectures with electrical functionality driven by simulation, analysis, and testing.
  • Deliver documentation such as technical reviews, test results, and theory of operations.
  • Perform component, board, and subsystem level testing to ensure conformance to requirements (EMI/ESD analysis, test fixture development, thermal analysis, etc.).
  • Participate in design reviews and cross‑functional xFMEA analysis.
Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field with 5+ years of experience, or advanced degree with 3+ years.
  • Experience using Altium Designer or similar eCAD tools for PCB schematics.
  • Experience contributing to design, development and validation of digital electrical systems across product lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams on board‑level and system‑level architecture.

Preferred

  • Experience in medical device or other highly regulated industries.
  • Familiarity with embedded communication protocols and industrial networking (PCIe, Ethernet, EtherCAT, CAN, I2C, SPI).
  • Strong understanding of Linux and real‑time OS (Ubuntu, QNX).
  • Experience with EMC, EMI, ESD, and thermal design.
  • Experience with system‑level computer design and AV cards, processors, machine learning algorithms.
Compensation & Benefits

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $125,000 to $201,250 per year. The position is eligible for an annual performance bonus and long‑term incentive program.

Employees may participate in company‑sponsored benefits including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short‑ and long‑term disability, business accident insurance, group legal insurance, and a 401(k) retirement plan.

Time off benefits: Vacation up to 120 hours per calendar year; Sick time up to 40 hours; Holiday pay up to 13 days (including floating holidays); Work, personal, and family time up to 40 hours.
