Job summary

Virginia Tech is seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer to design and maintain electrical distribution and substation systems. This role involves directing installation, maintenance, and operation of substations, control and distribution systems, and street lighting to ensure safety, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.

The ideal candidate has an advanced degree in electrical engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience, with extensive distribution system experience, NEC/NESC

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in electrical engineering or bachelor's degree with related work experience equivalent to an advanced degree.
• Extensive experience with electrical distribution systems.
• Working knowledge of National Electrical Code and National Electrical Safety Code.
• Must have or be able to obtain a Virginia Responsible Land Disturber Certificate within 3 months of employment.
• Experience using personal computers and a variety of office software.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to analyze and resolve technical problems.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain electrical distribution and substation systems.
• Oversee design, specifications, cost estimates, and multi-project management.
• Coordinate installation, maintenance and operation of substations, control systems, distribution and street lighting.
• Design, test, troubleshoot and supervise relaying, controls and communication installations.
• Provide customer service on technical issues.
• Perform other duties as requested.
