Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a space environment solar array design engineer for the EPS team. The role involves architecting, manufacturing, testing, and verification of solar array designs for spacecraft, onsite in Virginia with some travel. The position follows a 9/80 schedule and may require night/weekend shifts.

Candidate will mentor multi-disciplinary teams and lead design reviews to ensure compliance with all electrical, mechanical, structural, and thermal requirements. U.S.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of experience.
  • Expertise in electromechanical system design for space environment solar arrays.
  • Ability to interpret spacecraft bus/subsystem requirements and derive lower-level requirements.
  • Experience in cross-functional engineering teams and clear communication.
  • U.S. Citizenship and TS/SCI clearance eligibility.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and verify mechanical and electrical requirements for solar array wings and release mechanisms.
  • Perform component trade studies and recommend technical solutions.
  • Conduct space environment solar array power estimates and degradation analysis.
  • Develop and execute mechanical and electrical design concepts for solar array wings.
  • Ensure compliance with design requirements through reviews and analyses.
  • Mentor engineering teams across multiple disciplines to meet program objectives.
  • Lead design reviews and participate in risk assessment and mitigation activities.
