Job summary

Burns & McDonnell's Power global practice seeks an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to lead electrical design for solar projects across multiple locations, including Phoenix, Detroit and Chicago. Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an ABET program and 7 years electrical engineering experience.
Alternative: ABET BSEE and 7 years, or Master's with 6 years experience.
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred; EPC project experience is a plus.
Strong knowledge of ANSI and IEEE standards; proficient in design and documentation.

Responsibilities

Lead electrical design of projects from concept through design completion with multi-disciplinary teams.
Prepare equipment specifications, data sheets, RFQs, and purchase recommendations.
Review vendor drawings and interface data with suppliers and other disciplines.
Develop project schedule, scope, budget, staffing and construction planning.
Manage changes and perform cable ampacity and trench design using CYMCAP/ETAP/AmpCalc.
Model electrical systems for short-circuit, load flow, and arc flash analysis.
QA/QC of drawings and field coordination to resolve installation issues.

The Power global practice at Burns & McDonnell provides a multidisciplinary approach to power solutions from project financing, siting and permitting to turnkey construction and startup. Our experience covers the full breadth of renewable power generation technologies — from utility scale solar to battery storage, hydrogen, carbon capture, and nuclear plant services.

Burns & McDonnell's Power global practice is seeking to hire an experienced Electrical Engineer who will work on project teams to create world-class solar power generation designs for new projects in a variety of project locations. The Senior Electrical Engineer will work with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting electrical plans according to budget constraints, design factors and client requirements.

Responsibilities Include:

Lead electrical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers; includes collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to develop equipment layouts, one-line diagrams, cable routing, communications systems design, grounding design, equipment selection, and equipment specifications.
Prepare electrical equipment: packaged equipment specifications and data sheets, Request for Qualifications (RFQ's), technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.
Review electrical equipment vendor drawings, data interface with suppliers, clients other engineering disciplines, detailers, designers.
Participate in development of project schedule, scope, budget staffing planning and construction planning.
Responsible for effective management of change orders.
Perform cable ampacity and trench design using software packages like CYMCAP, ETAP, or AmpCalc.
Modeling of electrical systems using software packages like ETAP or SKM for generation of electrical reports including short circuit analysis, reactive power and load flow analysis, and arc flash hazard analysis.
Modeling of grounding system design using software packages including CDEGs and WinIGS.
Applies expert knowledge of commonly used electrical concepts, practices, codes and procedures within the electrical engineering services industry.
Applies knowledge and experience to complex projects, find non-standard design solutions.
Quality review production drawings for a variety of projects and project related data as required by the project managers to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD related software.
Quality review the construction administration including coordination with field personnel to resolve design related installation issues, calculations, field inspections and testing of electrical systems.
Leads field inspections, installation, measurements or calculations for public and private clients.
Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.
Build effective relationships with existing clients, customers and contractors and develop new business opportunities.
Responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction goals and expectations are met.
Participate in sales and marketing efforts and identify key pursuits.
Lead the development of cost proposals and qualification statements to achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance.
Prepare and present project budgets and cost estimates.
Report on project performance.
Provide leadership, guidance and instruction to the electrical engineering practice.
Mentor and guide less experienced engineers.
Responsible for QA/QC process adherence.
Responsible for effective communication with other engineering disciplines.
Responsible for compliance with company and site safety policies.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program and 7 years electrical engineering experience required.
Or Bachelor's degree in Electrical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and 7 years electrical engineering experience required.
Or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering and 6 years electrical engineering experience required.
EPC project experience preferred.
Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
Strong knowledge of electrical equipment design ANSI and IEEE Standards.
Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience with leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members.
Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
Ability to travel.
Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.

Compensation

$160,000.00-240,000.00 Yearly

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
