Job summary

BP plc in Houston is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to support RNG assets and electrical systems across facilities, focusing on reliability and safe operation. You will lead corrective actions, mentor engineers, and work with maintenance teams to improve uptime while complying with safety standards.

Required: Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, 8+ years of industrial electrical experience, proficiency with ETAP and SKM.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
Minimum 8 years of industrial electrical experience.
Experience with 480 V distribution and medium voltage utility service.
Familiarity with API, NFPA, NEC, and NETA safety standards.
Proven ability to apply engineering standards to electrical equipment.

Responsibilities

Develop corrective actions and long-term reliability improvements for power distribution systems, motors, generators, transformers, VFDs.
Lead RCFA investigations for significant electrical failures.
Lead reliability improvement projects and capital replacement planning.
Analyze test data and recommend corrective actions.
Coordinate and review power system studies including load flow, short circuit, relay coordination, arc flash, and harmonics.
Collaborate with electric utility operators and project teams to ensure projects meet specs.
