Job summary

Optima Engineering PA, an employee-owned MEP engineering firm, seeks an Electrical Engineer to design electrical systems for higher education, municipal, K-12, and commercial facilities in the Southeast. Join a collaborative team focused on thoughtful, efficient building design across multi-discipline projects.

The ideal candidate will hold a NC PE license, have a bachelor’s in electrical engineering, and 5+ years of MEP experience with Revit/AutoCAD proficiency.

Qualifications

• Must hold a North Carolina Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in MEP building systems design for education, municipal, K-12, and/or commercial.
• Proficiency in Revit and/or AutoCAD required.
• Strong communication, coordination, and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with project managers and multidisciplinary teams to develop electrical designs from concept through construction.
• Design lighting, power distribution, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems per codes and project requirements.
• Prepare drawings, specifications, and calculations in Revit or AutoCAD.
• Perform load calculations, circuiting, panel schedules, and equipment sizing.
• Conduct field investigations, site observations, and existing system assessments.
• Review submittals, respond to RFIs, and provide construction administration support.
• Participate in coordination and QC reviews to ensure high-quality deliverables.
• Mentor junior staff and share technical expertise across the team.
