Job summary

BD is seeking an Electrical Engineer 3 in Durham, NC to design, develop, and test electrical systems for our medical devices. You will contribute from concept through production, ensuring compliance with IEC 60601 and ISO 13485 while collaborating with mechanical, software, and QA teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 7–10 years of electrical design and development experience.
• Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout tools (Altium, OrCAD, Eagle).
• Strong analogue and digital circuit design, power electronics and embedded systems.
• Experience with microcontrollers, FPGAs, and various communication protocols (SPI, I2C, UART, Ethernet, USB).
• Familiarity with medical device regulations (IEC 60601, ISO 13485) is desirable.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and test electrical circuits and systems for medical devices.
• Perform schematic capture, PCB layout design, and component selection.
• Conduct thorough testing, debugging, and troubleshooting of electrical designs.
• Develop and execute test plans, analyze test data, and generate reports.
• Collaborate with mechanical, software, and QA teams for system integration.
• Participate in design reviews and provide technical input.
• Ensure designs meet IEC 60601, ISO 13485 and internal QA requirements.
• Support manufacturing transfer activities and production test fixtures.
• Maintain documentation of designs, analyses, and test results.
• Stay current with emerging electrical engineering technologies.
