Job description

Senior Magnetics Engineer – Eaton Electrical Critical Power Solutions Division

Location: Richmond, VA. Relocation benefits provided within the United States only.

Annual salary range: $94,000 – $138,000. Salary is a general guideline and may vary based on skills, experience, qualifications, market, and business considerations.

What You’ll Do
  • Design low voltage dry‑type transformers (100 kVA–3000 kVA, up to 600 V) and related assemblies of varying complexity.
  • Collaborate with Electrical and Mechanical Engineers to identify relevant industry standards and compliance requirements impacting product design.
  • Support product certification planning and testing processes, and collaborate with relevant Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTLs).
  • Collaborate on the design and implementation of engineering repository structure and Standard Operating Procedures for transformer/magnetics design, including verification and validation.
  • Support Production during cost/design for manufacturing analysis (DFMEA / DFSS).
  • Work collaboratively with Manufacturing Engineers to optimize assembly and testing processes.
  • Continuously update your knowledge by staying current with all relevant UL, IEEE, IEC, CSA, and DOE standards.
Required (Basic) Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in design and testing of transformers, or a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with at least one (1) year of work experience in design and testing of transformers.
  • Ability to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and in the future.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Experience designing and testing low‑voltage dry‑type transformers.
  • Familiarity with mechanical design software such as Inventor or SolidWorks.
  • Experience in the design and successful manufacture of single‑phase and three‑phase dry‑type low‑voltage transformers and/or reactors.
  • Familiarity with UL, IEEE, NEC, and NEMA standards.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards and how they apply to our products, including practice in design verification and validation.
