Position Summary

Sr. Electrical Engineer – Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) – Portsmouth, NH

Real results come from years of real experience

We are seeking Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team of experienced engineering professionals. This position provides the opportunity to contribute to a variety of electrical engineering projects from initial concept (FEED) through design, procurement, construction, and commissioning. The successful candidate will work closely with engineers, designers, clients, contractors, and vendors to deliver effective engineering solutions for Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and natural gas projects nationwide.

This role is based in our Portsmouth, NH office.

About NV5 LNG Engineering

At NV5, we engineer transformative LNG solutions to address industry pressing challenges head‑on.

Our innovative approach includes the design and installation of liquefaction equipment at gas utility sites, enabling utilities to purchase natural gas at opportune moments when prices are low and compress it into liquefied natural gas (LNG). By compressing natural gas into LNG, utilities can effectively store it, ensuring availability during peak usage periods and mitigating the impact of price fluctuations.

Join us in revolutionizing natural gas delivery, as we harness the power of technology to meet the evolving needs of a dynamic energy landscape.

Responsibilities
  • Design electrical systems, equipment, facilities, and components for industrial processes in the LNG and natural gas industries.
  • Develop engineering deliverables including one-line diagrams, power distribution drawings, wiring diagrams, equipment specifications, and calculations.
  • Direct and coordinate CAD designers and drafters to produce accurate and complete engineering documentation.
  • Prepare equipment specifications and requisitions for procurement activities.
  • Review vendor quotations, drawings, and technical submittals to ensure compliance with project requirements and applicable codes and standards.
  • Lead factory acceptance testing (FAT), and site commissioning activities.
  • Interface with multidisciplinary engineering teams to integrate electrical and control systems into overall plant designs.
  • Provide technical support during construction, installation, and plant startup. Typical travel is expected to average around 10% per year but varies by year.
  • Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and project stakeholders to resolve technical issues and maintain project schedules.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an accredited university.
  • 10+ years of experience in electrical engineering, design, construction, commissioning, consulting, manufacturing, industrial facilities, energy, or related industries.
  • Experience designing and supporting low-voltage electrical power distribution systems, motor control centers, and related electrical equipment.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or the ability to obtain licensure within one year of hire is preferred.
  • Experience supporting projects through design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup.
  • Field experience involving equipment installation, troubleshooting, commissioning, or contractor coordination is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of industrial electrical power systems and power distribution systems.
  • Experience with low-voltage systems (up to 480V) and medium-voltage systems (up to 4160V).
  • Knowledge of Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), soft starters, motor control centers (MCCs), and process control systems.
  • Proficiency with power system modeling and analysis software, preferably ETAP.
  • Ability to develop electrical equipment and installation cost estimates in support of project proposals.
  • Experience preparing bid packages, evaluating contractor proposals, and supporting contractor selection.
  • Strong knowledge of NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code), NFPA 70E (Electrical Safety in the Workplace), and applicable IEEE, ANSI, and industry standards.
