NV5 is seeking a Field Electrical Engineer (Remote) based in California to lead owner’s representation across multiple project sites. You will perform field inspections, QA/QC, and oversee testing and commissioning activities, including 50–75% travel for site assessments and outages.

The role requires 5+ years in field electrical maintenance within EPC for commercial projects, strong MV relay testing experience, and proficiency with MS Office/Smartsheet.

Formación

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of field electrical maintenance experience within EPC of commercial projects or similar
  • Ability to identify onsite deficiencies and energization blockers
  • Experience working with NETA qualified testing vendors and assessing pass/fail results
  • Proficient with Medium Voltage infrastructure including testing of relays
  • Ability to coordinate onsite activities during outages in small teams
  • Experience conveying findings to public or private entities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft programs including Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, Adobe/Bluebeam and Smartsheet
  • Must have excellent communication skills

Responsabilidades

  • Verify cable testing results from NETA (Tan Delta, PF, VLF, DC Hipot)
  • Identify punch list items and ensure compliance with client processes
  • Oversee onsite activities to ensure compliance and energization readiness
  • Troubleshoot automatic transfer switches as needed
  • Work with low/medium/high voltage switchgear and breakers
  • Calibrate relays and understand power metering
  • Attend customer sites in a timely manner

Position Summary

Field Electrical Engineer (Remote) - This position is full time remote based in California. NV5 owner representatives act as a dedicated advocate, alleviating project complexities and mitigating risks effectively. Utilizing the latest project controls and project management software, NV5 owner representatives plan and monitor project performance, identifying deviations from the plan and implementing corrective actions in a timely, cost-effective manner. Our expertise in strategic planning, cost estimation, project controls, and transition management ensures on-time, within-budget delivery to the highest quality standards. Whether it’s, facilitating site assessments, or coordinating facility shutdowns, owners can confidently trust our team to achieve project goals while experiencing peace of mind. As our Field Electrical Engineer, you will serve as an owner’s representative providing field inspections, construction quality assurance, oversight of electrical testing and commissioning activities at multiple sites during various phases of construction. Tasks include completion of checklists, adherence to established processes, identification of code compliance issues and common deficiencies, escalation of energization blockers and documenting as punch list items. Electrical systems are varied but include commercial electric vehicle charging infrastructure and commercial facility power upgrades. You will actively participate in internal weekly program syncs and work closely with the Project Managers to ensure necessary field documentation and checklists are completed. During weekly syncs all team members proactively participate to ensure client satisfaction and identify program efficiencies, review lessons learned and align on upcoming schedule for the week. The successful candidate will work virtually when not travelling to project sites.

Responsibilities
  • Convey overall project status to clients by means of discussions, presentations, and project reports.
  • Manage assigned site schedule, travel, communication with Client and onsite representatives and project budgets.
  • Ability to engage with multiple stakeholder groups while onsite. Responsible for the effective management of own time and effort.
  • Frequent travel within the United States to attend site walks and Owners Rep onsite services at commercial customer sites (Approximately 50-75% travel).
  • Inspect, oversee NETA vendor testing, and onsite verification of installed low, medium (480 Volt) and potentially high voltage electrical systems.
  • Assess power transformer testing results - Doble, TTR, Insulation Resistance, etc.
  • Oversee NETA vendor testing of both electro-mechanical and solid-state relays.
  • Verify acceptable cable testing results provided by NETA vendor - Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, DC Hipot.
  • Identify and create punch list of deficiencies observed while onsite.
  • Oversee onsite activities to ensure compliance with Client processes and procedures.
  • Automatic transfer switch troubleshooting oversight.
  • Low, Medium and High voltage switchgear and circuit breaker experience.
  • Relay calibration and power metering knowledge.
  • Able to attend customer sites in a timely manner.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field.
  • 5+ years of field electrical maintenance experience within engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of commercial projects or similar.
  • Ability to identify onsite deficiencies and energization blockers. Can recommend resolution and identify root cause.
  • Experience working with NETA qualified testing vendors, ability to assess pass/fail of test results.
  • Proficient with Medium Voltage infrastructure including functional testing of relays.
  • Ability to work in small teams and coordinate onsite activities during outages (for preventative maintenance or power upgrades).
  • Experience developing and conveying findings to public or private entities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft programs including Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, Adobe / Bluebeam and Smartsheet.
  • Must have excellent communication skills.

The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $135,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. Additional compensation may include restricted stock units, performance-based bonuses, and a comprehensive benefits package covering medical, dental, PTO, 401(k), unlimited FTO (Flexible Time Off) and professional development opportunities.
