Job summary

GTI Fabrication, Buffalo, NY, is seeking a Staff Electrical Engineer to provide senior technical leadership across modular power and industrial systems from concept through manufacturing, testing, and commissioning.

The ideal candidate brings 12+ years in industrial power distribution and controls, with experience in switchgear, generators, UPS, and compliance with NEC/IEEE standards, plus strong mentoring and collaboration skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 12+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience in industrial equipment, power generation, controls, or custom manufacturing.
• Experience owning complex electrical designs from concept through production, testing, and commissioning.
• Strong background in industrial electrical power distribution and controls.
• Experience with switchgear, generators, transformers, UPS systems, ATS, MCCs, VFDs, or similar high-power systems.
• Experience developing and reviewing electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and production documentation.
• Strong understanding of NEC, NFPA, UL, IEEE, and other applicable electrical standards.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical problem solving and mentor other engineers.
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical architecture and design for complex modular power and industrial systems.
• Develop and review single-line diagrams, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and cable schedules.
• Design and integrate AC/DC power distribution systems, switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS systems, ATS equipment, MCCs, VFDs, and control systems.
• Perform and review electrical calculations including load analysis, short-circuit analysis, protection coordination, voltage drop, grounding, and equipment sizing.
• Establish technical direction and provide guidance on complex electrical designs.
• Lead design reviews and resolve high-level technical issues across projects.
• Support PLC/HMI, SCADA, communication, and monitoring system integration.
• Collaborate with controls engineers on system architecture, alarm logic, interlocks, and communications.
• Support Factory Acceptance Testing, commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and root-cause investigations.
• Provide technical support to manufacturing, integration, field service, and customers.
• Develop and maintain production-ready electrical documentation, BOMs, standards, and design practices.
