Job summary

Collins Aerospace in Burnsville, Minnesota, is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to design and maintain computer hardware components for avionics systems. This onsite role requires a U.S. Person due to ITAR considerations.

You will review obsolete parts, design digital/analog circuits, and supervise PCB layout while troubleshooting with lab equipment to meet design specs and drive improvements. Strong problem solving is essential.

Qualifications

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
  • Must be U.S. Person - Job requires access to ITAR or 600/500-series EAR information or hardware (directly or indirectly) and the company will not seek an export authorization for this role.
  • 3+ years of experience designing and analyzing analog and digital circuits using schematic capture tools and performance simulation tools.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex hardware issues

Responsibilities

  • Review and maintain awareness of obsolete parts on assigned products. Provide appropriate resolution to obsolete parts.
  • Design and analyze digital and analog circuits using schematic capture tools and performance simulation tools.
  • Characterize digital and analog signals using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and related test equipment.
  • Design and analyze digital circuits including computer hardware components (e.g., processors, memory, interfaces), and their performance characteristics (e.g., throughput, processing architecture, timing, capacity).
  • Provide supervision and technical guidance for PCB layout.
  • Perform hands‑on troubleshooting using engineering lab equipment.
  • Perform validation and verification activities to ensure products meet design specifications.
  • Contribute to engineering estimates for limited to moderate scope of electrical design problems.
  • Review LRU defects trends, identify systemic root causes and process improvements and recommend new approaches, tools, and techniques that drive continuous improvements in the development processes.
  • Use your excellent written and verbal communication for technical documentation and collaboration.

Our Collins Communication, Navigation & Surveillance team is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to design and maintain computer hardware components for our award winning avionics systems.

This is an onsite position in Burnsville, Minnesota.

What You Will Do:

Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Experience with RTCA/DO-160, DO-254, and FCC/ETSI regulations, and standards for Design Assurance Guidance for Airborne Electronic Hardware.
  • Experience with environmental testing, including Temperature, Emissions, Susceptibility, and/or Lightning.
  • Strong foundation in data router design, engineering and wireless communication systems.
  • Expertise in digital radio circuit design, including micro‑processors, FPGAs, memory, and AC and DC electronics power supplies.
  • In‑depth knowledge of wireless communication protocols (e.g., 5G, WiFi, Bluetooth, etc.).
