Job summary

Prairie Land Electric Cooperative is seeking an experienced Electrical Distribution Engineer to design and analyze overhead and underground distribution projects. You will lead system studies, provide technical support for operations and outages, and ensure compliance with safety and interconnection standards.

Qualifications include a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, 5+ years in utility distribution, and a PE license preferred or obtainable within a year.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program.
• Professional Engineer license preferred or the ability to obtain one within 1 year of employment.
• 5+ years of electric utility distribution engineering experience or equivalent.
• Strong knowledge of electric distribution systems, protective coordination, voltage regulation, system planning, and utility operations.
• Experience with engineering software such as Milsoft WindMil, NISC DEW, AutoCAD, GIS, SCADA, outage management systems, or staking/design software is preferred.
• Knowledge of rural electric cooperative practices, RUS construction standards, NESEC requirements, and distribution system work planning is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Develop and review engineering designs for distribution facilities, including line extensions, system upgrades, reconductoring, voltage conversions, and reliability projects.
• Perform distribution system studies: load flow, voltage drop, fault current, protective device coordination, capacitor placement, regulator settings, and long-range plans.
• Provide technical support for system operations, outage restoration, switching procedures, feeder reconfiguration, and emergency response.
• Evaluate reliability and power quality issues and recommend corrective actions to improve voltage performance and service continuity.
• Coordinate interconnections for distributed generation and energy storage per policy and standards.
• Prepare cost estimates, material specs, construction standards, and technical reports.
