Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine is recruiting a Senior Electrical Engineer to develop embedded firmware and hardware for surgical power tools, batteries, and controllers. You will own design from concept through bring-up, coordinating across electrical, mechanical, software, regulatory, and manufacturing teams.

The role emphasizes low‑level firmware in C/C++ and strong hands‑on circuit design, power electronics, and battery systems for medical devices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
• Eight or more years of relevant experience in architecture development for embedded hardware and firmware.
• Strong foundation in analog and digital circuits, power electronics, and mixed-signal design.
• Experience with embedded firmware in C for microcontroller-based systems.
• Experience with SPI, I2C, UART, LIN, and CAN interfaces.
• PCB development and hardware/firmware integration experience.
• Ability to troubleshoot using oscilloscope, DMM, and other lab equipment.
• Experience delivering products under regulated design controls.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop surgical power tools, motor controllers, battery systems, chargers, handpieces, and accessories.
• Define electrical architectures including power distribution and embedded control hardware.
• Develop electronics and embedded controls for three-phase brushless DC motor systems.
• Translate requirements into electrical specifications, schematics, PCB designs, and verification strategies.
• Plan and execute board bring‑up for prototype and production assemblies.
• Develop firmware interfaces to battery-management ICs, charging circuits, sensors, and communications.
• Collaborate with mechanical, software, quality, regulatory, and manufacturing teams.
• Support compliance with IEC standards and medical-device lifecycle requirements.
