Job summary

WSP seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer for its South Jordan, UT office to join the Property and Buildings Team. You will oversee electrical infrastructure design for healthcare, science & technology, higher education and commercial projects, coordinating with owners and other disciplines.

This role requires a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, 5–7 years of experience, and proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD. You’ll lead budgets, mentor staff, ensure QA/QC, and stay current with codes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant post-education experience as an electrical engineer providing design deliverables for large capital projects.
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Knowledge of NEC, ICC, IECC and related codes.
  • Proficient with Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Project management experience on small to mid-level projects.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead junior team members with QA/QC focus.
  • Willingness to travel as required.

Job Description

This Opportunity WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Electrical Engineer for our South Jordan, UT office. Be involved in projects with our Property and Buildings Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges. Our Utah Buildings Group works on a range of large and small projects and focuses heavily on Healthcare, Science & Technology, Higher Education and Commercial projects.

Your Impact
  • Oversee complex new construction, renovation, and electrical infrastructure projects including review and approval of electrical infrastructure design plans, ensuring data integrity and compliance with applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Apply high-level electrical engineering techniques and processes for various project phases including concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, construction, and operation.
  • Plan and incorporate future-ready techniques, concept development, operating strategies, and various electrical design requirements.
  • Prepare and review electrical calculations for loads, equipment sizing, grounding touch and step potentials, short circuit study, overcurrent protective device coordination, one-line diagram development, and protective relaying.
  • Lead MEP engineering projects including preparing and overseeing relevant project budgets, tracking hours and expenses, ensuring satisfactory performance, supervising subcontractors, task completion, cost and quantities of materials/equipment/labor, and technical calculations.
  • Develop and review plans, specifications, and cost estimates, and updating electrical infrastructure layout plans that require coordination with owners, other disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, concepts, and recommendations.
  • Provide guidance and leadership project members with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Remain current in latest electrical engineering techniques and practices.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant post education experience as an electrical engineer providing design deliverables for large capital projects.
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Proficient knowledge of electrical engineering principles, practices, process, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering standards and codes (NEC), building codes (ICC) and energy codes (IECC).
  • Ability to utilize innovative analytical techniques in solving complex technical problems.
  • Coordinates and manages tasks within larger projects.
  • Proficient with Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Project management experience with small to mid-level projects including tracking hours and expenses for project work.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Ability to assertively direct others in the field such as subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Works toward developing solid client relationships.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

Compensation:

Expected Salary: $94,300 - $137,400 WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
