MEP Construction Firm is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer - Building Systems in San Jose, CA. The Salary Range: $140,000 - $145,000 and offers a hybrid schedule.

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to lead and contribute to the design and development of complex building systems across a variety of sectors, including mission-critical facilities, healthcare, commercial, and life sciences. This role requires deep technical expertise, strong leadership, and the ability to manage projects and mentor junior staff. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, collaborative, and passionate about sustainable and innovative engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design using advanced engineering software.
• Perform voltage drop, short-circuit, breaker coordination, and Arc Flash studies.
• Design emergency and standby power systems in compliance with NEC Articles 700-702.
• Specify electrical equipment (UPSs, Panels, Transformers, etc.) and size feeders and overcurrent protection.
• Validate Title 24 compliance using EnergyPro and COMCheck.
• Design electrical room layouts and main service entrances.
• Lead design efforts for mission-critical/data center projects.
• Contribute to MV and HV system design, including substations, relays, and transformers.
• Coordinate with utility companies and project stakeholders.
• Prepare project documentation, budgets, scopes, and schedules.
• Conduct life cycle cost analysis (LCCA) and return on investment (ROI) studies.
• Ensure quality assurance procedures are followed throughout the design process.
• Review technical drawings, specifications, and shop submittals.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers; assign tasks and review work.
• Lead site observations and participate in client presentations and project meetings.
• Ensure compliance with building codes, energy codes, and LEED standards.
• Maintain strong client relationships and act as primary contact when needed.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience: Minimum of 10 years in electrical design and project leadership.
• Certifications: PE license; LEED Accreditation and BMS experience a plus.
• Technical Skills: Proficient in Revit, BIM 360, SKM Power Tools, Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam.
• Knowledge: Strong understanding of NEC, Title 24, and California/local building codes.
• Soft Skills: Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational abilities.

Compensation & Benefits

This is a hybrid role based in San Jose, CA. The expected salary range is $140,000 - $145,000, depending on experience, education, and other relevant factors.
