Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced Electrical/Control Systems Engineer to design and implement advanced cooling control systems for data center applications. You'll develop PLC firmware, design control architectures, and integrate sensors and actuators to meet stringent performance targets.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams from concept through production, ensuring safety and industry compliance while maintaining project schedules and budgets.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant engineering field.
  • 5+ years designing, programming, and maintaining control systems.
  • 3+ years PLC programming, HMI development, and sensor-network integration.
  • Experience with RS-232/RS-485, Ethernet, SNMP, REST API, and related protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical and control panels for liquid cooling systems using high and low voltages.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, refrigeration, and manufacturing engineers through full product development from concept to production support.
  • Select electrical components and create schematics and wire run lists.
  • Develop control solutions with PID loops for temperature, flow, and pressure.
  • Develop PCBA/PLC firmware directly or with a software engineer, and test/debug with the team.
  • Ensure hardware and firmware meet requirements; keep deliverables on schedule and budget.
  • Design control system architectures and implement real-time cooling control algorithms.
  • Integrate sensors, controllers, and actuators; develop HMIs and configure controllers.
  • Commission, test, validate, and troubleshoot control systems; participate in design reviews.
  • Support planning, scheduling, and budgeting for data center cooling projects and retrofits.
  • Maintain documentation for control system designs and programming changes; assist production cooling systems.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Design electrical and control panels for liquid cooling system products using high and low voltages
  • Work with mechanical, refrigeration, and manufacturing engineers through the full product development process from concept through production support
  • Select electrical components
  • Create schematics and wire run lists
  • Design control solutions, including functional control logic and PID control loops for temperature, flow, and pressure
  • Develop PCBA/PLC control firmware directly or collaborate with a software engineer
  • Test and debug systems with the full engineering team
  • Ensure electrical hardware and firmware meet functional and performance requirements and deliverables are on schedule and budget
  • Develop control system architectures
  • Implement control algorithms that adjust cooling capacity using real-time data
  • Integrate sensors, controllers, and actuators
  • Create and update electrical schematics and control diagrams
  • Program and configure controllers and develop HMI interfaces
  • Commission, test, and validate control systems
  • Troubleshoot and resolve control system issues
  • Participate in cross-functional design reviews
  • Assist with planning, scheduling, and budgeting for data center cooling projects and retrofits
  • Maintain documentation for control system designs and programming changes
  • Support and troubleshoot production cooling systems
  • Develop and execute verification test plans
  • Ensure cooling control systems comply with relevant industry standards and safety regulations, including UL/CE guidelines
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in designing, programming, and maintaining control systems
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with PLC programming, HMI development, and integration of sensor networks
  • Working experience with communications protocols, i.e. RS-232, RS-485, ethernet, SNMP, REST API, etc.
  • Strong understanding of control systems, automation, and cooling fundamentals (thermal management, airflow, and load balancing)
  • Proficient in creating and interpreting electrical schematics and control logic diagrams
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams
  • Working knowledge of PLM software
  • Working knowledge of MRP software; Oracle Cloud a plus
  • Knowledgeable/experienced in working with mixed-signal oscilloscopes and DVMs
