Senior Electrical Engineer

Location: Canton, MI

Employment Type: Direct Hire, Full-Time

Salary: $101,000–$110,000 annually, based on experience

Travel: Approximately 60–80% nationwide travel

The Adecco Permanent Recruitment Team is recruiting on behalf of a leading engineering and industrial services organization seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to join its Industrial Engineering team. This position will support industrial power distribution design, infrastructure assessments, electrical installations, system modifications, and equipment relocations while ensuring projects meet customer requirements, applicable codes, and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct site surveys and support the design of industrial power distribution systems and installation plans .

  • Evaluate existing electrical infrastructure, including system capacity and load requirements.

  • Develop and review one-line drawings, electrical designs, and installation plans .

  • Support lead designers in the development of industrial electrical distribution systems.

  • Research and ensure compliance with applicable National Electrical Codes, building codes, and industry best practices .

  • Coordinate with municipalities and inspectors on permitted electrical projects.

  • Support electrical project costing, quoting, scheduling, and resource planning .

  • Develop project-level material lists and support purchasing activities.

  • Research and source technical components and evaluate alternative components for compatibility.

  • Manage and provide technical direction to Electrical Superintendents, Electricians, and subcontractors .

  • Supervise the quality and execution of electrical work at project sites.

  • Conduct and verify Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures prior to electrical work.

  • Support the disassembly, replacement, modification, and reassembly of electrical power distribution equipment.

  • Support installation activities involving:

  • EMT and rigid conduit

  • Unistrut frames and hangers

  • Cable tray

  • Electrical panels and equipment

  • Wire pulls and terminations

  • Troubleshoot electrical systems both remotely and in the field.

  • Collaborate with controls and low-voltage specialists to ensure proper system integration.

  • Support arc flash studies and generate appropriate electrical safety labels.

  • Provide technical guidance to field teams and assist with resolving complex electrical issues.

  • Perform additional jobsite and project responsibilities as needed.

Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of combined experience in electrical engineering, industrial electrical installation, maintenance, or a related field.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology , or a related discipline.

  • Master Electrician certification and Journeyman Electrician license required.

  • Strong experience with industrial electrical systems and power distribution.

  • Mastery of reading and interpreting electrical schematics, engineering drawings, specifications, and technical manuals .

  • Experience with engineering/design software such as Autodesk Electrical Suite .

  • Strong understanding of applicable electrical codes and industry best practices.

  • Proven troubleshooting, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities.

  • Strong electrical aptitude and applicable mathematical skills.

  • Experience supervising electricians, electrical contractors, or field teams.

  • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary engineering and construction teams.

  • Experience operating or working around aerial lifts, forklifts, and other powered equipment .

  • Must maintain a reliable vehicle suitable for interstate travel.

  • Must have a basic set of electrical/mechanical hand tools.

  • Ability to work nights, weekends, variable schedules, and additional hours as project requirements dictate.

Field & Electrical Skills

The ideal candidate should be comfortable with both engineering responsibilities and hands-on industrial electrical environments , including:

  • Industrial power distribution

  • Electrical infrastructure assessments

  • One-line drawings

  • Electrical schematics

  • Conduit installation

  • EMT and rigid conduit

  • Manual, electric, and hydraulic pipe bending

  • Cable tray and Unistrut installation

  • Wire pulling and terminations

  • Electrical equipment installation and modification

  • Electrical troubleshooting

  • Multimeters and electrical testing equipment

  • LOTO procedures

  • Arc flash requirements

  • Coordination with controls/low-voltage systems

Travel Requirements

60–80% Nationwide Travel

This is a true travel position. The Senior Electrical Engineer will travel throughout the United States and may be on the road for 2–3 weeks at a time , depending on project requirements.

  • Approximately 60–80% nationwide travel

  • Extended onsite assignments are expected.

  • Company arranges and pays for hotels, flights, and rental vehicles in advance.

  • Employees who drive their personal vehicle from home to a project site may expense mileage at $0.76 per mile .

  • Daily mileage between the hotel and jobsite is not reimbursed.

  • $70/day per diem while traveling.

  • Must be comfortable working nights, weekends, and variable schedules as project demands require.

This position is ideal for an experienced electrical professional who can bridge the gap between engineering/design and field execution . The successful candidate will be comfortable reviewing and developing electrical designs, assessing industrial power systems, directing electricians and subcontractors, troubleshooting in the field, and interacting directly with customers and project teams.

Important

This is not a traditional office-based Senior Electrical Engineer position. Candidates must be comfortable with 60–80% nationwide travel, extended time onsite, and hands-on industrial project environments.

Pay Details

$101,000.00 to $110,000.00 per year
