Job summary

Dennis Group is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to design building power distribution, lighting, fire alarm systems, and low voltage networks for food processing facilities. The role includes client interaction, project leadership, and performing essential electrical calculations and documentation.

The candidate will prepare bid documents, coordinate with trades, and support project planning, feasibility studies, and startup activities across multiple sites while traveling up to 25%

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related 4-year degree.
  • 8+ years of work experience in electrical systems for building power.
  • 8+ years of work experience in lighting, fire alarm systems, and low voltage systems for building spaces, including lighting calculations, and coordinating fixture placement with trades.
  • 8+ years of work experience in electrical bid documents and procuring electrical materials and equipment.
  • 8+ years of work experience in AutoCAD, Revit or other related design programs.

Responsibilities

  • Designing electrical systems for building power distribution (208V, 480V, and medium voltage).
  • Designing lighting for food processing spaces and coordinating fixture placement with trades.
  • Designing fire alarm systems per NFPA 72, 101, and local codes.
  • Creating power plans and one-line diagrams; panels schedules.
  • Managing electrical bid processes and field startup support.

  • Pay or shift range: $115,000 USD to $130,000 USD The estimated range is the budgeted amount for this position. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, location, qualifications and other job-related reasons.

Description

His/her specific responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

Responsibilities

  • Designing electrical systems for buildingpower, i.e. normal, emergency, and standby power distribution systems for 208v, 480v, and medium voltage for industrial facilities.
  • Execute duties on larger projects independently
  • Client contact and lead engineer
  • Documenting all necessary calculations for the design such as short circuit, selective coordination, arc flash, generator sizing, steady state and transient voltage drops, load calculations, conductor sizing, raceway fills, etc.
  • Manage time and meet commitments
  • Understands Ohms Law, AC/DC, Electric and magnetic fields
  • Understands power system theory – 3-phase vector math, power factor, symmetrical components
  • Understands capacitors, inductors, and resonance
  • Designinglightingfor food processing spaces, including lighting calculations for emergency and inspection lighting level needs. Coordinating fixture placement/mounting with other trades.
  • Designingfire alarmsystems per NFPA 72, 101, and local building code.
  • Specify means and methods
  • Specify other common work – grounding, start-up, LV & MV Cables
  • Specify equipment
  • Designing low voltage systems such as LAN, phones, PA, Wi-Fi, access control, cameras, etc.
  • Create power plans
  • Create power one line and panel schedules
  • Define fire alarm requirements per IBC and NFPA 101
  • Define Low Voltage Systems
  • Review scope with client – create and manage needs list
  • Producing bid documents consisting of layout drawings, one-line, riser, schedules, details, and specifications.
  • CAD – add 2D & 3D devices to Xrefs
  • Procuring long lead light fixtures and power distribution equipment such as switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, transformers, MCC’s, generators, variable speed drives, and UPS’s.
  • Transformer configurations
  • Perform short circuit calculations identifying deficiencies or series ratings
  • Estimate weights of main tray/trapezes and equipment needing support
  • Assist in managing electrical bid process for clients, observing construction, and assisting with startup.
  • Project planning and feasibility studies.
  • Actively participating in and supporting department-wide standard development, updates, and maintenance.
  • Researchingelectrical building/power materials and best practices
  • Supporting talent growth within our organization
  • Assists with interviewing and hiring new team members
  • Handle complex issues and tasks with minimal supervision and advise subordinate team members on solutions to issues they encounter.
  • Provide coaching and/or mentoring to a subordinate group when directed by supervisor

Required Education Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related 4-year degree
  • 8+ years of work experience in electrical systems for building power.
  • 8+ years of work experience in designing lighting, fire alarm systems, and low voltage systems for building spaces, including lighting calculations, and coordinating fixture placement with trades.
  • 8+ years of work experience in electrical bid documents and procuring electrical materials and equipment.
  • 8+ years of work experience in AutoCAD, Revit or other related design programs.
  • Relevant experience in a manufacturing or construction setting preferred.
  • FE or PE tracked desirable.
  • Travel to customer project sites for fieldwork, review, audit, and meetings, estimated 25%.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift-up to 15 pounds at times.

Travel Requirement

  • Up to 25% travel required to visit project site and other offices.
