Job summary

Vigilant Engineering Inc. in Seattle, WA is seeking a Senior Embedded Systems Engineer to lead end‑to‑end design of battery‑aware electronics for medical and industrial devices.

You will own schematics, PCB layouts, and verification, collaborating with mechanical, RF, and product teams while ensuring safety, EMC, and regulatory compliance. A strong background in SOC/MCU design and power management is essential.

Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years embedded or mobile system design with SOCs, hardware architecture, board bring-up and NPI experience.
  • Lead Design Engineer on 2 mass manufactured electro‑mechanical products.
  • Experience with schematic capture tools such as OrCAD or Altium and PCB layout or PCB viewer tools.

  • Design, implement, debug and characterize embedded systems with end‑to‑end ownership from concept to production.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams across design, product, and supply chain.
  • Design schematics, drive board layouts, assemble, test and integrate designs into electro‑mechanical systems.
  • Ensure product compliance with industry certifications and regulations.
  • Mentor and provide technical oversight of other Electrical Engineers.

Vigilant Engineering Inc. | Seattle, WA | Hybrid

Principal Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, debug and characterize embedded systems with end‑to‑end ownership of EE product design from concept to launch.
  • Optimize architecture and circuits for power consumption and efficiency.
  • Collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams such as industrial design, mechanical, RF, architecture, product design, NPI, and supply chain.
  • Drive the resolution of technical issues by working with the cross‑functional teams: Electrical, Mechanical, SW, Quality, Reliability, as well as various Contract Manufacturing teams.
  • Perform lab measurements and testing as needed to validate the design and resolve any issues. Demonstrate good troubleshooting skills and the ability to effectively use standard lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, and data acquisition equipment.
  • Know and understand how to conduct bench‑top testing and characterization of device electronics.
  • Track test progress, bugs, and fixes and produce regular progress reports.
  • Select components, design, implement, debug and characterize embedded systems with end‑to‑end ownership of EE product design from concept to production.
  • Design schematics, drive board layouts, assemble, test, debug, and integrate designs into electro‑mechanical systems.
  • Ensure product compliance with industry‑specific certifications/regulations.
  • Complete technical reviews and evaluations of complex engineering processes.
  • Identify issues, new scope, errors, or unplanned tasks in the course or project execution and work with project management and the client to incorporate updates to the project plan or modify requirements or deliverables to meet schedule and budget constraints.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Basic Qualifications
  • BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Significant experience developing custom rechargeable battery management systems for mobile devices.
  • 5+ years of experience in medical/commercial/industrial/consumer electronics or related fields, with design for low cost, manufacturability, and high reliability.
  • 7+ years of experience in embedded or mobile system design based on SOCs, hardware architecture, board design, board bring‑up and product NPI experience.
  • Lead Design Engineer on 2 mass manufactured (1M or more) electro‑mechanical products.
  • Experience with schematic capture tools such as OrCAD or Altium and PCB layout or PCB viewer tools from Cadence Allegro, Altium, or equivalent.
  • Experience with implementing designs incorporating industry standard peripherals such as Wi‑Fi, USB, Bluetooth, RS232, and Ethernet.
  • Experience integrating designs using 32‑bit+ ARM, RISC, or PC architecture application processors or microcontrollers.
  • Experience with implementing analog designs including filters and power conversion.
  • Experience developing designs with industry standard interfaces such as I2C, I2S, SPI, PCI, RS232.
  • Can solve complex problems while displaying technical creativity.
  • Experience and knowledge of printed circuit board (PCB) technologies, such as rigid, flex, hybrid, HDI, etc.
  • Design for Safety and EMC agency compliance requirements, perform or oversee agency certification testing, and mitigate issues.
  • Experience leading technical teams, cross‑functional groups and vendors regarding project plans.
  • Mentor and provide technical oversight of other Electrical Engineers.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and desire to support and mentor other engineers.
  • Proven ability to quickly learn new technologies and collaborate with partners to deliver outstanding results.
  • Should have hands‑on experience in initial IC bring‑up and debugging, functional verification, and manufacturing support.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the product development, validation, and support life cycle for a complex vertical product.
  • Ability to meet Vigilant Engineering, customer and/or government security screening and background check requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in EE, CE, CS, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience seeing a product from early design all the way through being shipped and supported to a real‑world customer.
  • Experience designing under aerospace engineering and quality standards such as AS 91xx, SAE, ISO or other highly regulated environments.
  • Expertise in one or more subsystems in typical electronics products such as battery charging system development, camera, SOC/Compute, control systems, sensors & Data Acquisition, power management, etc.
  • Experience performing bench‑level measurements for analog, high‑speed signal and power.
  • Experience designing for signal integrity and low EM emission and susceptibility.
