Job summary

Metric DCX in San Francisco is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to own BESS and backup power architectures across high-density deployments, guiding design from concept through EOR oversight. This is an owner’s role with broad technical ownership and standards definition.

You will evaluate BESS, UPS, generators and hybrid power, specify switchgear, transformers, PCS/inverters and BMS, coordinate utility interconnections, and develop design requirements for modular data-center infrastructure.

Qualifications

• 8–10+ years of electrical engineering experience.
• Strong background in data centers, mission-critical facilities or comparable critical infrastructure.
• Hands-on experience with large-scale BESS, ideally 10 MW+.
• Strong understanding of critical and redundant electrical distribution.
• Experience with UPS, switchgear, transformers and protection systems.

Responsibilities

Senior Electrical Engineer – BESS & Critical Power

Metric is partnering with a fast-growing AI infrastructure company that is looking to appoint a Senior Electrical Engineer to take ownership of critical and backup power architecture across high-density compute deployments.

This is an owner’s engineering role, offering the opportunity to define electrical architecture, evaluate technologies and establish technical requirements, while overseeing Engineers of Record through detailed design.

The Role

You will take technical ownership across large-scale BESS, critical power distribution, utility interconnection and backup power systems, helping determine how these technologies are integrated into highly resilient data-center environments.

What We're Looking For

• 8–10+ years of electrical engineering experience
• Strong background in data centers, mission-critical facilities or comparable critical infrastructure
• Hands-on experience with large-scale BESS, ideally 10 MW+
• Strong understanding of critical and redundant electrical distribution
• Experience with UPS, switchgear, transformers and protection systems
• Knowledge of PCS/inverters, BMS and battery technologies
• Experience with utility interconnection
• Short-circuit, coordination and arc-flash experience
• Strong knowledge of relevant NFPA and UL standards
• Ability to make and defend major electrical architecture decisions

Experience with AI/data-center loads, modular or prefabricated infrastructure, or HVDC power architectures would be highly advantageous.

Compensation (Base)
