Job summary

EXP is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer in San Diego to lead a team of electrical engineers and designers on Science, Technology and Healthcare MEP projects. You will guide technical development, ensure quality control, and interface with clients and stakeholders throughout project delivery.

The role requires a California PE (preferred), 7+ years of related design experience, Revit MEP proficiency, and the ability to travel locally to sites and meetings.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 7 years of design experience in Healthcare, Life Sciences, Research and Development, or related facilities systems.
• Engineering degree required: BS in Architectural or Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Revit MEP proficiency required.
• Registered Professional Engineer in California preferred.
• Ability to travel locally.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor design staff in technical and non-technical skills.
• QC own work and the work of staff (drawings, RFIs, submittals).
• Perform at a responsible charge level meeting EXP’s design and quality standards.
• Demonstrate knowledge of CEC/NEC, NFPA Life Safety Code, HCAI, and DSA requirements.
• Represent EXP in project meetings and site visits; document results properly.
• Perform field verification and take-offs of existing systems independently.
• Develop and manage electrical work plans to meet schedule and budget.
• Educate clients on code requirements during meetings and design charettes.
• Prepare studies and reports for electrical systems.
• Evaluate Value Engineering items for risk at EXP.
• Lead Basis of Design narratives into DD and CD drawings.
• Demonstrate strong knowledge of lighting, power, and fire alarm systems.
• Contribute positively to EXP and local office culture.

Your work environment at EXP

In this role, you will be part of a dynamic team of electrical engineers and designers for Science, Technology and Healthcare MEP projects in the San Diego, California office.

What a day at EXP has in store for you

• Effectively lead and mentor design level staff in both technical and non‑technical skills.
• Effectively QC own work and work of other staff (IE: drawings, RFIs and submittals).
• Perform at a ‘responsible charge’ level meeting EXP’s design and quality levels.
• Knowledge in/with the CEC/NEC, NFPA Life Safety Code, HCAI, and DSA requirements.
• Independently represent EXP in project meetings / site visits; properly document results as required.
• Perform field verification and take‑offs of existing systems independently.
• Successfully solve complex problems within time & budget.
• Develop, monitor, and successfully execute electrical work plans to meet schedule and budget.
• Demonstrate ability to educate clients on code requirements during meetings, design charettes, etc.
• Independently prepare studies and reports for electrical systems.
• Evaluate Value Engineering items with respect to EXP’s level of risk.
• Lead the implementation of Basis of Design narratives into DD and CD drawings.
• Demonstrate a high level of knowledge in lighting, normal and emergency power, and fire alarm systems.
• Positively contribute to EXP and local office culture.

What Your Experience Looks Like

• Minimum of 7 years of experience in related design in one of the following: Healthcare, Life Sciences, Research and Development, and other facilities systems and building projects.
• Engineering Degree (BS Architectural Engineering, or BS Electrical Engineering, or equivalent degree)
• Revit MEP proficient
• Registered Professional Engineer in the state of California preferred.
• Ability to travel locally.

The pay range for this role is $140,000 to $200,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.
