About Lydian Energy

Lydian is an established energy development company specializing in the development and construction of utility-scale solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in North America. Lydian owns 14 assets in development, construction or under operation, consisting of both solar and storage, which reached or are expected to reach FNTP from 2024-2028.

Lydian is backed by Excelsior Energy Capital (“EEC”), a leading private equity fund manager with more than $1.5B in assets under management, that is exclusively focused on north American middle market renewables investing. Lydian’s relationship with EEC provides several critical advantages, including access to (i) a specialized team of value-add investor-operators with decades of renewables development, construction, and transaction experience and (ii) committed discretionary equity capital, strong relationships with debt and tax equity investors, and deep experience structuring tax equity and project financings.

Lydian has built a team of seasoned, passionate energy infrastructure professionals with deep expertise in project development, construction, financing, and M&A. This is an opportunity to join a fully capitalized development platform that is running at full capacity, but still at an early-enough stage for you to have a real impact on company culture and commercial outcomes.

Job Scope

The Senior Electrical Engineer will provide technical leadership across the development and pre-construction phases of utility-scale solar PV and BESS projects throughout the United States. This is a multi-faceted role suited for an engineer with experience managing concurrent projects across multiple phases of the project lifecycle. The Senior Electrical Engineer will serve as the primary technical resource on assigned projects from early-stage development through construction readiness, coordinating across internal teams and external partners to advance projects on schedule and within scope. Core functions include project-level technical diligence, design optimization, development engineering, pre-construction support, and risk analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize PV / BESS layouts in accordance with land characteristics, permitting constraints, and optimizing for energy harvest, constructability and price efficiency, and long-term operation. Experience creating utility scale PV / BESS layouts and preliminary plan sets in AutoCAD a plus.
  • Perform energy modeling studies using tools such as PVsyst to ensure production targets are optimized and meet financial goals.
  • Provide support and management of technical aspects of the project development process, including permitting, interconnection, communications, environmental, topographical, geotechnical, etc.
  • Oversee design reviews of EPC drawings as Owner and ensure the delivery of the PV system meets prudent industry standards and commercial targets are aligned with the goals of the investment.
  • Maintain an organized and clearly documented set of project specific technical deliverables.
  • Interface with the projects’ independent engineer to ensure reports are accurately created and protect both the interests of development and long-term ownership.
  • Provide construction RFI support as the owner’s engineer.
  • Provide technical leadership in conjunction with the team to support key stakeholders’ interests.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections prior to or in support of project completion.
  • Source and manage external consultants and partners, including developing Scope of Work documents, managing RFP process, and controlling scope and schedule to obtain similar deliverables.
  • Own all electrical deliverables assigned from development through pre-construction
  • Ensure design maturity of PV/BESS and completeness before EPC award
  • Lead PV and BESS system design, including layouts, DC/AC sizing, and configuration
  • Optimize for energy yield, cost, and constructability
  • Own production modeling and align assumptions with financial models
  • Ensure consistency between technical design and investment case
  • Define complete and unambiguous Owner’s requirements for EPC contracts
  • Eliminate design ambiguity and reduce redesign risk post-NTP
  • Manage and hold consultants accountable for scope, schedule, and quality
  • Coordinate with permitting, interconnection, environmental, and independent engineers

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Curious and motivated to acquire a deep understanding of renewable energy fundamentals.
  • 3+ years of experience in utility-scale PV / BESS system design and engineering.
  • 5 years minimum total engineering experience in renewable energy or construction.
  • Familiarity with utility-scale PV / BESS construction practices.
  • Ability to view engineering and technical matters through a commercial lens.
  • Able to travel approximately 15% of the time, as required by project location and type.
  • Accustomed to engaging varying project stakeholders including investors, EPC partners, developers, and O&M partners.
  • Strong understanding of energy modeling, solar resource assessments and capability to advise internal and external stakeholders to achieve agreeable and achievable production targets.
  • Experienced in working with 3rd party Independent Engineering firms.
  • Able to identify cost or schedule drivers and implement specific actions to optimize and protect both total installed budget and completion schedule targets
  • 5 years + experience in PV/BESS project engineering
  • Strong background in system design, layout, and energy modeling
  • Experience working with EPCs, developers, and independent engineers
