Job summary

Assurant seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead design and development of automation systems for robotics, material handling, and packaging automation. This onsite role is based at our Mt Juliet facility and focuses on safe, scalable solutions from concept through commissioning.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years designing electrical and controls systems for industrial automation, with expertise in servo systems, machine vision, robotics, and industrial networks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
  • 5+ years designing electrical and controls systems for industrial automation.
  • Experience with servo systems, machine vision, robotics, conveyors, and automated machinery.
  • 3+ years designing industrial machine networks (EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, EtherCAT).
  • 3+ years of project management leading technical projects.
  • Strong communication and collaboration with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical and controls systems for automated equipment.
  • Develop schematics, panel layouts, and power distribution designs.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers to ensure safe, high-performing controls.
  • Specify components: motors, drives, sensors, robotics, machine vision.
  • Design machine networks using EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, EtherCAT.
  • Integrate third-party equipment and networks.
  • Generate BOMs and documentation for procurement.
  • Review designs for compliance with standards and safety.
  • Support installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
  • Maintain project documentation using project management tools.
  • Drive continuous improvement in controls architecture.

Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the design and development of advanced automation systems that power next-generation operations. This role plays a critical part in conceiving, designing, and implementing innovative solutions across robotics, mechatronics, material handling, sortation systems, packaging automation, storage, and other industrial automation technologies.

The ideal candidate combines strong electrical engineering expertise with hands-on experience in controls, machine integration, and industrial automation, delivering reliable, safe, and scalable solutions from concept through commissioning. This is an onsite role in our Mt Juliet facility.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design complete electrical and controls systems for automated equipment and machinery
  • Develop electrical schematics, control panel layouts, power distribution designs, and detailed engineering drawings using SolidWorks Electrical or similar CAD tools
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers to create safe, reliable, and high-performing machine control systems
  • Specify electrical, controls, networking, and automation components, including motors, drives, sensors, robotics, and machine vision systems
  • Design machine networks utilizing industrial protocols such as EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, and EtherCAT
  • Integrate third-party equipment and communication systems, including serial and industrial network interfaces
  • Generate bills of materials, technical documentation, and requisitions for hardware and software procurement
  • Review and validate designs to ensure compliance with project requirements, industry standards, and safety regulations prior to release for manufacturing
  • Partner with customers, project managers, electricians, toolmakers, and cross-functional engineering teams to resolve technical challenges and deliver complete system solutions
  • Support installation, startup, site verification, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities
  • Maintain project documentation and engineering deliverables using project management tools such as Asana
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to controls architecture, automation technology, and engineering best practices
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • 5+ years of experience designing electrical and controls systems for industrial automation environments
  • Strong knowledge of electrical engineering fundamentals, including power distribution, motor controls, and industrial safety
  • Heavy experience with electrical and pneumatic schematic development
  • Background working with servo systems, machine vision, robotics, conveyors, and automated machinery
  • 3+ years of experience designing and implementing industrial machine networks (EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, EtherCAT, etc.)
  • 3+ years of project management experience leading technical projects from concept to deployment
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities with a passion for solving complex automation challenges
Desired Skills
  • Experience with industrial robotics platforms including KUKA, FANUC, ABB, Yaskawa, or similar
  • Working knowledge of machine safety standards, including ISO, RIA 15.06, OSHA, and related regulations
  • Certifications such as NFPA 79, UL 508A, ISO 13849, or IEC 62061
  • Experience building, testing, and commissioning electrical control systems
  • Familiarity with industrial cybersecurity principles and secure machine communications
  • Experience using version control platforms such as Git
  • Proficiency with project management tools (Asana, MS Project, or similar)
  • Strong technical documentation and report‑writing skills
  • Experience with SolidWorks Electrical or equivalent electrical CAD software
  • Experience with Visual Components or similar digital twin and offline programming tools
Pay Range

$88,000.00 - $147,000.00

Any posted pay range considers a wide range of compensation factors, including candidate background, experience and work location, while also allowing for salary growth within the position.
