Job summary

Oman Shell in Geismar seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer to act as the site technical authority for electrical design, operation, and troubleshooting. You will support Production, Maintenance, and Projects teams while ensuring compliance with standards and safety regulations.

You will lead electrical reliability improvements, mentor junior engineers, and guide capital projects from concept through commissioning. A strong background in industrial power systems and ETAP is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • PE licensure is a plus.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in industrial or chemical manufacturing environments.
  • Experience with power system modeling and analysis software (ETAP) including short-circuit, coordination, arc flash, load flow.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical authority for medium- and high-voltage distribution systems, substations, MCCs, VFDs, protective relaying, and reliability studies.
  • Lead or support root cause analyses for electrical incidents or recurring failures.
  • Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA 70E, OSHA, and Shell engineering standards.
  • Coach and mentor junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Lead electrical incident investigations and corrective action development.

**What’s the role**Shell is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer (also known internally as an Electrical Technology Engineer) to join its team in Geismar.This role sits within the Site Technical (ST) organization and reports to the Discipline Supervisor. The role serves as a senior technical authority on electrical engineering matters, providing deep expertise, guidance, and assurance to the Production, Maintenance, and Projects teams. Operating within enterprise standards and technical guardrails established by Core organizations, the role retains accountability for site-level technical execution, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of electrical systems.In addition, the role is expected to lead the resolution of complex technical issues, mentor less experienced engineers, and influence decisions across disciplines without direct authority. The Site Electrical Engineer provides advanced electrical engineering expertise to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of site assets. The role ensures that electrical systems are designed, operated, and maintained in compliance with applicable standards and regulations while enabling production reliability and long-term asset integrity.Accountabilities:* Provide technical expertise for medium- and high-voltage power distribution systems, substations, motor control centers (MCCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), protective relaying, electrical studies, and plant power system reliability.* Act as the technical authority for electrical system design, operation, and troubleshooting* Support Production and Maintenance teams in resolving complex electrical reliability and availability issues* Lead or support root cause analyses for significant electrical incidents or recurring failures* Provide technical assurance for management of change, projects, and modifications impacting electrical systems* Ensure compliance with applicable standards and regulations, including NEC, NFPA 70E, OSHA requirements, and company engineering standards.* Support development and execution of electrical maintenance and reliability strategies* Provide electrical technical assurance for capital projects from concept development through commissioning and startup.* Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, standardization, and knowledge sharing across the site* Coach and mentor junior electrical engineers and technical staff* Provide authoritative guidance on electrical engineering decisions and risk management* Lead electrical incident investigations and development of corrective actions to improve asset reliability and electrical safety* Improve electrical system reliability and availability to support production performance* Execute electrical engineering work within enterprise standards and technical guardrails* Enable safe, stable operations through timely and effective technical support* Strengthen site electrical engineering capability through mentoring and best practice adoption**What you bring*** Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer* Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is a plus* At least 8 years of relevant experience* Experience in Experience with power system modeling and analysis software (e.g., ETAP), including short-circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, load flow, and equipment evaluation studies* Experience in steam turbine and/or cogeneration systems is a plus* Significant experience in electrical engineering within an industrial or chemical manufacturing environment* Strong knowledge of power distribution systems, protection schemes, motors, and hazardous area requirements* Solid understanding of HSSE principles and disciplined operations**What we offer**The base salary range for this position is $124,000 - $186,000 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave for birthing parents, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.Additionally, employees are eligible for short-term disability leave for up to 26 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay as well as Long-Term Disability insurance. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives. For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
