Job summary

MiniMed in Los Angeles is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead design and development of advanced diabetes medical devices. You will apply expertise in analog/digital circuit design, MCU architectures, and power management to deliver reliable, compact systems.

You will collaborate across engineering disciplines to ensure device safety, quality, and manufacturability, while driving innovation from concept through validation.

Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree or higher with 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • Hands-on engineer with experience in medical devices a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of analog/digital circuit design and power management.

Responsibilities

  • Research and implement technologies to enhance features and reduce size and cost.
  • Design, develop and test ultra-low power analog, digital, and RF circuits.
  • Contribute to PCB layout and manufacturability, SI/EMI considerations.
  • Support battery management circuits and energy analysis.
  • Create functional and test specifications.
  • Provide DRM guidance across the functional area.
  • Collaborate with Product, Systems, Mechanical, Software, Quality, and Manufacturing teams.
  • Work under supervision of senior engineers and managers.

About The Role

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will play a key role in the design and development of cutting‑edge medical devices for people with diabetes. You will leverage your expertise in analog and digital circuit design, microcontroller system architecture, and advanced power management to help bring innovative solutions to market. This position requires a hands‑on engineer who is passionate about quality, patient safety, and collaborating with cross‑functional teams to solve complex technical challenges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Research and implement state‑of‑the‑art technologies to enhance product features, improve reliability and device size (electronics miniaturization), optimize manufacturing throughput and lower cost
  • Participate in the design, development and test of ultra‑low power analog, digital and RF circuits for diabetes focused medical devices
  • Participate in PCB layout, place and route while following best practices for manufacturability, signal integrity, and EMI/EMC compliance
  • Support design and test of battery management circuits, including PMICs, fuel gauges, and wireless charging. Conduct power and energy analysis to ensure efficient device operation and maximize battery life
  • Support characterization test and troubleshooting activities of electronic PCBAs
  • Generate functional and test specifications
  • Implement Design for Reliability and Manufacturability (DRM) principles within the functional area
  • Provide technical assistance to other functional departments such as Product Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, Quality, Reliability and Manufacturing
  • Work under the guidance of a Principal level engineer, Project Engineer and/or Engineering Manager
Required Knowledge And Experience
  • Requires advanced knowledge of job area combining breadth and depth, typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience.
  • May have practical knowledge of project management.
  • Requires a Baccalaureate degree (or for degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree which satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R.
  • 214.2(h)( 4)(iii)(A) and minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience.
Nice To Have
  • Strong working knowledge of:
    • Analog circuit design and simulation
    • Microcontroller system architecture
    • Lithium‑ion battery design techniques including PMICs, fuel gauges, and protection circuits.
    • Power and energy consumption analysis
    • PCBA schematic capture, layout, fabrication and assembly
  • Experience with voltage regulators, RF and BLE communication, and digital circuit design
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams including systems, embedded software, and mechanical engineering
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and leadership skills
  • Experience with FDA, ISO 13485, IEC 60601, or other relevant medical device standards
  • Experience with low‑power design and miniaturized electronics
  • Familiarity with IPC-610 and design for manufacturability and test (DFM/DFT).
  • Experience with simulation and modeling tools (e.g., SPICE, Altium Designer, OrCAD)

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$87,000.00 - $149,000.00

For roles located in California, Seattle WA, Washington DC, Boston MA, and New York City, the salary range is $87,000.00 - $149,000.00 USD.

Actual compensation may vary based on factors including experience, education, certifications, skills, market conditions, internal equity, and geographic location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

This position is eligible for a short‑term incentive called the Short Term Incentive (STI).
