Job summary

Fluor Corporation in Houston, TX, seeks an experienced Electrical Engineer to develop specifications for electrical equipment and design criteria across nuclear-related projects. The role includes design of pre-fabricated electrical buildings and DC power systems, plus procurement and estimation tasks.

You will mentor staff, perform complex engineering calculations, and ensure alignment with NRC regulations and project objectives in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • Accredited four-year degree in engineering and 10 years' related experience.
  • Ability to communicate with management, coworkers, clients, and vendors.
  • Job-related technical knowledge to complete the work.
  • Learn and apply knowledge of applicable codes, laws, and guidelines.
  • Attention to detail and time-conscious work habits.
  • Professional registration and membership in a technical society is preferred.
  • Experience managing and leading a large project and project close-out.
  • Proficiency with standard software: word processing, email, spreadsheets, presentations.
  • Nuclear design experience and familiarity with NRC regulations are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop specifications for Electrical Equipment and Design Criteria for Electrical Design.
  • Design, specify, and procure pre-fabricated Electrical Buildings.
  • Design DC Power Systems with batteries and DC switchgear.
  • Develop and review estimates and schedules, including workforce forecasts.
  • Establish and monitor material quantities; provide forecasts and analysis.
  • Develop and review specifications and design criteria.
  • Participate in procurement, permitting, and subcontracting activities.
  • Perform and check calculations; specify equipment and solve engineering problems.
  • Mentor colleagues, develop training material, conduct seminars, and provide performance input.
  • Analyze problems and provide independent recommendations aligned with project objectives.

Job Description
  • Develop specifications for Electrical Equipment and Design Criteria for Electrical Design
  • Pre-fabricated Electrical Buildings design, specification, and purchasing
  • DC Power System design with batteries and DC switchgear
  • Develop and review estimates (including effort-hour estimates) and schedules, progress reports, including workforce forecasts
  • Establish, track, and monitor material key quantities; provide analysis and forecasts
  • Develop and review specifications, including design criteria
  • Participate in activities associated with equipment and material procurement, permitting, and subcontracting
  • Perform and check calculations, specify equipment, and solve problems of complex to difficult engineering complexity
  • Participate in people development through mentoring, development of training material, conducting training seminars, and performance appraisal input and counseling
  • Analyze and make independent recommendations regarding solutions to problems with varying complexity in accordance with organization and/or project objectives and guidelines

Basic Job Requirements
  • Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in engineering field of study and ten (10) years of work-related experience; a recognized professional certification or registration in the applicable field, if required; some locations may have additional or different qualifications in order to comply with local requirements
  • Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors
  • Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job
  • Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines
  • Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner
  • Professional registration and membership in technical society (preferred)
  • Advanced knowledge of discipline codes and standards, commercial availability and cost of materials
  • Experience managing and leading a large project
  • Project set-up and project close-out experience
  • Practical field experience
  • Intermediate computer and software skills to include the use of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheet and electronic presentation programs
Other Job Requirements
  • US Citizen or Green Card holder with current or past clearance to work on nuclear projects
  • Previous experience with nuclear power plant design
  • Experience executing engineering work under an ASME NQA-1 quality program
  • Familiarity with nuclear industry codes, standards, and regulations that apply to the electrical design of nuclear power plants, including NRC regulations
  • Previous experience with Electrical design for a safety class environment
  • Knowledge of separation criteria used in the nuclear industry for power and instrumentation cable
  • Previous experience using safety related software (ETAP Nuclear, etc)

Market Rate Statement: The market rate for the role is typically at the mid-point of the salary range; however, variations in final salary are determined by additional factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
