Job description

SwitchBox is looking for a hands-on Electrical Engineer to design, integrate, test, and validate electrical systems for advanced mobility and vehicle development programs.

This is a great opportunity for an engineer who enjoys working directly with hardware, solving challenging technical problems, and seeing their work come to life on vehicles, prototypes, and test systems.

The role can fit an experienced individual contributor ready to take on more technical leadership, or an engineer who wants to grow toward leading projects, mentoring others, and potentially managing people.

About SwitchBox

SwitchBox is an engineering and product development company supporting customers across automotive, mobility, electrification, autonomy, defense, and energy.

Our team works on complex engineering challenges involving embedded systems, controls, electrical systems, battery and vehicle control, functional safety, ADAS, HIL testing, systems engineering, and vehicle-level integration.

We work closely with our customers from early concept and architecture through development, integration, validation, and production support. Our engineers have the opportunity to work across disciplines, solve real technical problems, and take meaningful ownership of their work.

Responsibilities
  • Design and integrate vehicle electrical systems, including power distribution, wiring and harnesses, sensors, actuators, controllers, CAN networks, and high-voltage systems.
  • Review and contribute to schematics, PCB designs, interface control documents, logical diagrams, specifications, and engineering documentation for advanced automotive embedded controllers.
  • Use interface and logical diagrams to define system connections, support control system development, and coordinate engineering resources.
  • Design and execute electrical tests on vehicles, prototypes, benches, components, and subsystems.
  • Build and debug wiring harnesses, including selecting appropriate connectors, terminals, crimping tools, and assembly processes.
  • Perform hands-on instrumentation, troubleshooting, vehicle integration, and data analysis.
  • Support component selection, prototyping, validation, customer discussions, and quality-control documentation.
  • Work closely with electrical, controls, systems, mechanical, software, and technician teams.
  • Own technical workstreams and drive problems from initial identification through resolution.
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to junior engineers and co-ops.
  • Take on increasing responsibility in technical leadership, project leadership, and potentially people management.

Who Will Thrive in This Role

You may be a strong fit if you enjoy being close to the hardware and want more ownership than a narrowly defined engineering role typically provides.

You should be comfortable moving between design work, hands‑on troubleshooting, vehicle integration, test development, technical documentation, and collaboration with customers and engineering teams.

You do not need prior management experience. What matters more is technical capability, ownership, communication, and an interest in helping others succeed.

This is a hands‑on engineering role today with a path toward greater technical and organizational leadership.

Depending on your experience and interests, that could include leading technical workstreams, owning larger portions of customer programs, mentoring engineers, leading projects, or eventually moving into people management.

Prior leadership or management experience is welcome, but not required.

Why SwitchBox

At SwitchBox, engineers have the opportunity to work across disciplines and across different stages of product development rather than being limited to one small piece of a program.

You’ll work alongside experienced engineers, interact directly with customers, solve problems on real systems, and have the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility as you grow.

If you enjoy hands‑on electrical engineering, vehicle systems, technical problem solving, and the opportunity to grow into a leadership role, we’d like to hear from you.
